Lead Backend Engineer - Java and AI - Jersey City

Salary: $61,000 - 101,000 per year Requirements:

• Formal training or certification in software engineering concepts and at least 5 years of applied experience
• Practical experience delivering system design, application development, testing, and operational stability
• Advanced proficiency in Java
• Experience designing, developing, testing, deploying, and supporting secure, scalable, resilient software with Java, Spring Boot, AWS, and Kafka
• Experience leading the effective use of approved AI-assisted development tools, including setting expectations for validating outputs for correctness, performance, and security
• Understanding of responsible AI use in engineering, including data sensitivity, secure handling of inputs and outputs, and security and resiliency standards; experience coaching engineers in safe, compliant adoption
• Proficiency across the software development life cycle
• Advanced understanding of agile practices, including CI/CD, application resiliency, and security
• Preferred: In-depth knowledge of financial services and related IT systems
• Preferred: Practical cloud-native experience

• Lead an agile team building data-centric, low-latency, high-throughput distributed applications and robust APIs for trusted products
• Drive end-to-end technical solutions across domains, ensuring platforms are secure, stable, scalable, and aligned with business objectives
• Design and develop creative software solutions, troubleshoot technical issues, and address problems beyond routine approaches
• Develop secure, high-quality production code and review and debug code written by others
• Lead adoption of enterprise-authorized AI-assisted engineering practices to improve code quality, delivery speed, and operational outcomes; establish validation standards and promote effective patterns across the team
• Apply software development life cycle tools, including approved AI-assisted development and automation capabilities, to increase the value of automation
• Identify recurring issues and opportunities to automate or eliminate remediation to improve application and system stability
• Lead evaluation sessions with external vendors, startups, and internal teams to assess architectural designs, technical credentials, and suitability for existing systems and information architecture
