About the Opportunity

Our client is a well-established and growing CPA firm in Fresno, California, seeking an experienced Tax Manager to join its leadership team.

This is an opportunity for an experienced public accounting professional who can take ownership of complex tax engagements, advise clients on tax planning and strategy, supervise accounting professionals, and develop long-term client relationships.

The firm is particularly interested in professionals with strong technical tax expertise who are ready to take on greater leadership, client-management, and business-development responsibilities.

Responsibilities

• Manage and oversee tax engagements from planning through completion.
• Prepare and review complex federal and state tax returns.
• Oversee individual, corporate, partnership, S-corporation, trust, and estate tax engagements.
• Provide tax planning and advisory services to clients.
• Research complex federal and state tax issues.
• Identify tax-saving opportunities and communicate recommendations to clients.
• Review tax returns and workpapers prepared by staff and senior accountants.
• Supervise, mentor, and develop tax department personnel.
• Manage engagement budgets, deadlines, and workflow.
• Communicate directly with clients regarding tax planning, compliance, and advisory matters.
• Respond to tax notices and assist with tax controversies when necessary.
• Develop and maintain strong client relationships.
• Assist partners with complex client matters and special projects.
• Participate in new-business development and client acquisition efforts.
• Identify opportunities to expand services to existing clients.
• Stay current on changes in federal, state, and local tax laws and regulations.
• Maintain the highest standards of confidentiality, accuracy, and professional ethics.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• CPA license required.
• 5+ years of public accounting tax experience preferred.
• Demonstrated experience managing tax engagements.
• Strong knowledge of federal and state taxation.
• Experience with individual and business tax returns.
• Strong technical tax research and analytical skills.
• Excellent client-service and communication abilities.
• Proven ability to supervise and mentor accounting professionals.
• Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple engagements.
• Ability to work independently while collaborating with partners and staff.
