Payroll Technician

The Role The Payroll Technician supports business operations by processing payroll accurately and on time, resolving payroll issues, and coordinating with the Payroll and People & Culture departments. The payroll technician also assists with accounts payable and maintains compliance with all regulations while safeguarding company assets. What You’ll Accomplish Keep in mind that this list is not all inclusive. Review timecards, pay amounts, and special payments for accuracy using established policies and laws. Investigate and document payroll discrepancies. Monitor payroll deductions and adjustments, including garnishments, union dues, deferred compensation, and voluntary insurance costs. Respond to payroll and timekeeping inquiries; provide training as needed. Create and post journal entries for various accounting functions, including payroll. Process accounts payable, payment requests, and expense reports. Prepare and submit government reporting, including taxes and retirement payments; ensure compliance with changes. Generate routine and ad hoc reports for management. Document payroll procedures and system changes. Maintain compliance with all contracts and policies. Pursue ongoing training for payroll system/process improvement. Research industry best practices. Handle sensitive information confidentially and professionally. Perform other duties and projects as assigned. What We’re Looking For Associate’s degree or equivalent, or three years of progressive payroll experience, including two years’ experience with complex payroll systems. At least one year of accounts payable experience or equivalent education and experience. Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) preferred. Advanced knowledge of computerized time/attendance and payroll systems; proficient in Microsoft Office. Strong mathematical skills (discounts, interest, commissions, etc.) and analytical abilities. Effective communicator across diverse groups; able to interpret written, oral, and diagram instructions. Inclusive mindset with a commitment to valuing differences and fostering collaboration.
