Plant Accountant

Manages the accounting flow of capital and plant operations of the Cooperative. Responsible for processing work orders to ensure proper inventory and asset allocations. Ensures the accuracy and completion of cooperative plant accounting records. Prepares and coordinates reimbursement requests related to FEMA and mutual aid storm events. Initiates and monitors damage billing reimbursements related to theft and damages to cooperative assets. Key Responsibilities Reconcile inventory, work orders, and fixed asset subsidiary ledgers to the general ledger monthly. Reconcile construction and retirement work‑in‑progress to the general ledger monthly. Setup and maintain construction units and record units, including periodic calculation and updating of standard costs. Assign proper work plan numbers and years to work orders and apply tag numbers to fixed assets appropriately. Calculate depreciation for fixed assets monthly. Prepare fuel and transportation cost allocations and related journals. Calculate overhead rates and ensure they are properly applied to open work orders. Reconcile all work order costs to staking sheets and/or as‑built, research discrepancies and close work orders to plant. Evaluate and report on the status of open work orders and determine whether to close or cancel them, ensuring timely closure of construction and retirement work‑in‑progress to plant. Summarize data and prepare Inventory of Work Orders and Special Equipment reports to meet Rural Utilities Service (RUS) reporting and loan‑fund requisition requirements. Identify and initiate refunds for excess contributions in aid‑to‑construction. Review fixed‑asset and construction contractor invoices in preparation for payment, ensuring proper rate, tag, classification, and coding. Coordinate the periodic physical inventory of fixed assets. Maintain FEMA documentation after qualifying events and assist in preparing project worksheets. Obtain and maintain a thorough working knowledge of Cooperative software systems relevant to duties and responsibilities assigned. Prepare reports, correspondence, and audit work papers as required. Receive training as directed by the Controller and/or CFO. Update and maintain daily job procedures. Perform all duties assigned by supervision. Provide emergency response coverage as needed. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in accounting, finance, business, mathematics, or a related field. Minimum three years of accounting experience or experience with work‑order processes, field engineering, and utility knowledge. RUS or FERC accounting experience preferred. Experience with a work‑order/accounting software system preferred. Experience in general utilities, contracting or construction is a plus. In lieu of education, eight years of experience in accounting and/or work‑order processes, field engineering, or utility knowledge will be considered. Certifications or licenses relevant to utilities, accounting, or work‑order processing preferred. Willingness to pursue industry‑related training (e.g., CFC, NRECA, accounting classes) is required. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Solid understanding of work‑order processing and accounting principles. Strong analytical ability. Understanding of the electric utility industry desired; familiarity with the work‑order process flow used by an electric utility preferred. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook. Excellent analytical, decision‑making, and problem‑solving skills. Attention to accuracy and detail. Physical Demands and Work Environment May stand, reach, stoop, kneel, sit or stand for long periods. May lift, carry, push, pull or move up to 25 pounds. May travel overnight to regional and national destinations. May work outside normal hours.
