Position Title Non-Registered Polysomnographic Technician Location AMC Center for Sleep Disorders - Huber Heights Job Code 1052 Employment Type Non‑Exempt Schedule Wednesday, Thursday, Friday 6:30 pm to 6:30 am Position Summary A Polysomnographic Technician performs comprehensive evaluation and treatment of sleep disorders, including in‑center and home sleep apnea testing, diagnostic and therapeutic interventions, comprehensive patient care and direct patient education under the general supervision of a Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT) and/or the Board‑Certified Sleep Physician. Population Served Infant (birth – less than 1 year) Pediatric (1 – less than 9 years) Adolescent (9 – less than 18 years) Adult (18 – less than 65 years) Geriatric (65 years & older) All Age Groups (birth & above) Not Applicable Qualifications Education Minimum: High School completion / GED Preferred: Basic Medical Terminology, moderate computer skills Additional Requirements Must be enrolled in and have completed the A‑STEP Online Self Study Modules within two years of enrollment; or must have completed training in polysomnography in a program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or a Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (CoARC) with the polysomnography option. The Registry exam must be passed within one year of completing the A‑STEP program. Must also participate in at least 30 credits (averaged 10 per year over the past 36 months) of sleep‑related continuing education credits. Licensure / Certification / Registration Basic Life Support / CPR (Required) Medical Assisting Certificate (Required) Nursing Assisting Certificate (Required) Experience Minimum: 1 – 3 years of job‑related experience Prior job title: N/A Prior specific functional responsibilities: Successful completion of a polysomnography program of no less than one year duration associated with a state licensed and/or nationally accredited educational facility, or a minimum 1 year as a Polysomnographic Trainee with documented proficiency in all required competencies, or an allied health professional such as a Licensed Practical Nurse or Respiratory Therapist. Adheres to professional standards, hospital policies and procedures, federal, state, and local requirements, and TJC standards and/or standards from other accrediting bodies. Reports to work as required. Essential Duties & Functions Collect, analyze and integrate patient information to identify and meet patient-specific needs. Determine final testing parameters/procedures in conjunction with the ordering physician or clinical director and laboratory protocols. Review patient history and verify medical order. Follow sleep center protocols related to sleep study. Verify patient identification, collect documents and obtain consent for the study. Explain the procedure and orient the patient to the sleep center. Select appropriate testing equipment and calibrate the testing equipment to determine proper function. Apply electrodes and sensors according to accepted published standards by the AASM. Perform routine positive airway pressure (PAP) interface fitting and desensitization. Other Duties & Functions Comply with applicable laws, regulations, guidelines and standards regarding safety and infection control issues. Perform routine equipment care and maintenance and inventory evaluation. Maintain current CPR or BLS certification. Maintain 10 CEUs annually. Demonstrate computer skills appropriate for the position. Follow HIPAA and privacy policies. Respond to sleep patient’s procedural-related inquiries by providing appropriate education utilizing sleep center specific protocols. Participate in the quality assurance program. Comply with professional standards of conduct. Able to work 12‑hour shifts 3‑4 nights a week ranging from 6:30 pm – 6:30 am. Able to work at either location, Centerville or Huber Heights as needed.
