CONSTRUCTION INSPECTOR I (RAILWAY/TRANSPORTATION/ELECTRICAL)

Overview The Construction Inspector I (Railway/Transportation/Electrical) plays a critical role in ensuring that construction projects within the railway, transportation, and electrical sectors meet all regulatory, safety, and quality standards. This position involves conducting detailed inspections of construction sites, materials, and workmanship to verify compliance with project specifications and applicable codes. The inspector collaborates closely with contractors, engineers, and project managers to identify and resolve issues promptly, thereby minimizing delays and cost overruns. By maintaining thorough documentation and reporting, the inspector supports project accountability and continuous improvement efforts. Ultimately, this role safeguards public safety and infrastructure integrity by ensuring that all construction activities adhere to established standards and best practices. Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent; technical or vocational training in construction, civil engineering, or a related field is preferred. 5 years of experience of construction inspection experience, especially in railway, transportation and electrical. Basic understanding of construction methods, materials, and safety standards specific to railway, transportation, or electrical projects. Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, blueprints, and technical specifications. Strong attention to detail and observational skills to identify potential issues on-site. Valid driver's license and ability to travel to various construction sites within the United States. Preferred Qualifications Associate degree or higher in construction management, civil engineering, electrical engineering, or a related discipline. Previous experience working as a construction inspector or in a quality control role within railway, public transportations, rapid transit systems and electrical inspection. Familiarity with federal and state transportation regulations and railway industry standards. Certification from recognized bodies such as the American Society for Quality (ASQ) or NICET (National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies). Proficiency with inspection software, digital reporting tools, and mobile data collection applications. Responsibilities Perform on-site inspections of railway, transportation, and electrical construction activities to ensure compliance with design plans, specifications, and safety regulations. Review construction materials and workmanship for quality assurance and adherence to project requirements. Document inspection findings accurately and prepare detailed reports highlighting any deficiencies or non-compliance issues. Coordinate with contractors, engineers, and project managers to communicate inspection results and facilitate timely corrective actions. Monitor adherence to safety protocols and environmental regulations throughout the construction process. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant codes, standards, and industry best practices applicable to railway and transportation construction. Assist in the development and implementation of inspection procedures and quality control measures. Skills The required skills enable the Construction Inspector I to effectively evaluate construction activities against technical and safety standards, ensuring compliance and quality. Strong observational and analytical skills are essential for identifying deviations from project specifications and potential safety hazards. Communication skills are used daily to collaborate with diverse teams, convey inspection findings clearly, and recommend corrective measures. Technical proficiency in reading blueprints and using inspection tools supports accurate assessments and documentation. Preferred skills, such as familiarity with industry regulations and certification credentials, enhance the inspector’s ability to navigate complex project requirements and leverage technology for efficient reporting and quality assurance.
