Description Job Overview – Experienced athletic training position with clinical and operating room responsibilities serving orthopedic physicians and surgeons. Surgical Assist in the Operating Room – Assists surgeon with patient positioning, preparation, draping; maintains sterile field, cuts sutures, assists with tissue retraction, exposure, suctioning, graft preparation, camera positioning, and wound closure under physician supervision. Patient Care – Performs thorough medical and injury history, pain assessment, review of medications and allergies; conducts physical examinations including range of motion, strength, sensation, palpation, functional and ligamentous testing. Ordering Tests/Labs – Orders and interprets diagnostic studies (radiographs, MRI, EMG, CT, ultrasounds) and referrals as directed by a physician. Therapeutic Procedures – Prepares and assists with injection procedures; provides post‑operative wound care, sutures removal, dressing changes; implements patient management plans from office visits through surgery. Patient Education – Serves as liaison between patient and physician, instructing on exercise, answering questions about treatment plans, surgery, rehabilitation, and future care. Documentation – Records each visit in electronic databases, including history, exam, test results, impression, plan, and patient learning. Administrative Responsibilities – Completes clerical tasks for clinic flow, prepares FMLA or disability paperwork, ensures chart readiness, handles patient phone calls, general office duties, and any tasks assigned by physicians or the clinic manager. Additional Responsibilities – Assists with research projects, mentors the Athletic Training Residency program, teaches educational sessions, and supervises students. Minimum Qualifications NBCOT Orthopedic Technologist Certification with minimum two (2) years as a Certified Athletic Trainer and one (1) year surgical experience; OR NBCOT Orthopedic Technologist Certification with completion of an Athletic Training Residency Program and one (1) year surgical experience. Must obtain NBCOT OT‑Surgery Certification within 6 months of hire. Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification per the American Heart Association. Physical Requirements Medium Max 25 lbs:

• 0‑33% of the work day (occasionally) 1‑10 lbs;
• 34‑66% of the work day (frequently) 11‑25 lbs;
• 67‑100% of the work day (constantly) 1‑10 lbs;
• Lifting up to 25 lbs, Carrying up to 25 lbs; Occasional to frequent standing, walking, sitting, close eye work; Physical demands may vary by work area and tasks.

Environmental Factors Blood‑borne pathogen exposure, chemical, gas, fume, vapor exposures, communicable diseases, electrical shock, floor surfaces, hot/cold temperatures, indoor/outdoor conditions, latex, lighting, patient care injuries, radiation. Shift work, travel may be required. Personal protective equipment and respirators as appropriate.
