Recreational Therapist MA - INPATIENT REHAB FACILITY - STL - Full-Time

The Recreational Therapist is responsible for evaluating and treating patients, as well as, providing a wide variety of recreation programs and activities for patients; to facilitate functional progress, emotional progress and community reintegration. The Recreational Therapist develops individualized treatment plans for each patient assigned to meet their medical and psychological needs, interests and capabilities.

1. Evaluates assigned patients to assess and document the need for therapeutic recreational interventions in order to attain rehabilitation goals and a plan of care.

2. Treatment interventions and recreational activities for individuals are provided based on findings of the evaluation and plan of care.

3. Uses a variety of techniques including arts and crafts, pet therapy, sports, games, dance and movement, drama, music and community outings to improve and maintain the physical, mental and emotional well-being of patients.

4. Documents therapeutic interventions and maintains necessary records in patient’s files.

5. Assists patients to integrate into the community by teaching them how to access community resources and recreational services through community outings to parks, restaurants, museums, and shopping venues.

6. For patients under the age of 18, initiate tutoring services and maintain communication between the tutoring program and the patient’s school, as well as, post discharge services and use of the Zone.

7. Monitors department equipment and supplies. Orders and maintains inventory levels of program materials appropriate to the patient population and department’s budget.

8. Assists with training and supervision of therapeutic recreation students and volunteers.

9. Attends 1-2 continuing education courses per year

10. Performs other related duties.

Education Requirements

Bachelor’s Degree Therapeutic Recreation; Master’s Degree preferred

Experience Requirements

Graduate from Accredited Therapeutic Recreation Program

Licensing and Certification Requirements (if applicable)

Name: Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) preferred – National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification (NCTRC)

Compensation

The Mount Sinai Health System (MSHS) provides salary ranges that comply with the New York City Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $48.9073 - $51.9078 Hourly. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, education, and operational need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
