Bookkeeper - Accounting Specialist

TalentFish is seeking a detail-oriented Bookkeeper / Accounting Specialist for an established, family-owned service and installation company. This position will help keep financial records accurate, customer billing timely, and day-to-day accounting organized. The ideal candidate brings practical bookkeeping experience, dependable follow-through, and the ability to work closely with customers, vendors, and an operational team.

What You'll Do

• Support accounts payable, including reviewing vendor invoices, verifying approvals, resolving discrepancies, and preparing payments for authorization.
• Prepare customer invoices using work orders and installation or service records; accurately apply deposits and payments.
• Monitor accounts receivable, follow up on outstanding balances, and resolve billing questions professionally.
• Reconcile bank and credit card accounts, investigate discrepancies, and maintain supporting documentation.
• Record and categorize financial transactions accurately in the accounting system.
• Assist with month-end activities, account reconciliations, and financial reports for management and the company's accounting partner.
• Coordinate with service and office teams to ensure completed work, materials, and related charges are reflected accurately in billing.
• Maintain organized financial records and handle confidential information with discretion.

What You Bring

• At least two years of relevant bookkeeping or accounting experience.
• Working knowledge of accounts payable, accounts receivable, bank reconciliations, and basic general ledger accounting.
• Experience using accounting software and Microsoft Excel.
• Strong attention to detail, organization, and follow-through.
• Ability to identify discrepancies, ask thoughtful questions, and manage competing deadlines.
• Professional communication skills and a service-minded approach with customers, vendors, and colleagues.

Preferred Experience

• Background supporting a small business, contractor, distributor, or field service organization.
• Familiarity with job-based billing, customer deposits, and tracking costs against individual projects.
• QuickBooks experience or the ability to learn a comparable accounting platform.
• Accounting or bookkeeping coursework; equivalent practical experience welcomed.

Compensation Information The expected salary range for this position is $25 - $30 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications. This role also qualifies for comprehensive benefits such as health insurance and paid time off. TalentFish is committed to pay transparency and equal opportunity.
