Responsibilities Assist with patient scheduling, including updating potential referrals from surgery schedules and creating scheduling tags for new referrals. Transcribe and distribute schedules to nursing units. Set up, clean up, and assist in patient treatment areas. Clean and maintain equipment and departmental areas. Stock linens and supplies. Perform clerical functions and ensure effective communication and documentation. Carry out activities as directed by the Director and therapists. Essential Duties Assist the Physical Therapist in treating patients, applying modalities such as heat, cold, electrical stimulation, ultrasound, JOBST compression, whirlpool, massage, and monitoring exercise programs. Demonstrate competency in all modalities and understand their precautions and contraindications. Follow safety procedures, departmental policies, and maintain patient rights and confidentiality. Maintain a safe environment and promote high-quality patient care. Identify situations that require a Physical Therapist’s attention within the first 30 days of employment. Attend one in‑service per month relevant to job duties. Pass the CPR written test and practical demonstration after training. Assist the PT Coordinator or PMR Director as requested. Write accurate daily treatment notes. Show a basic understanding of the science behind utilized modalities. Ensure equipment and work areas remain orderly and clean, including setting up treatment areas and cleaning hydrotherapy tanks per procedures. Report any unsafe equipment or conditions. Perform basic receptionist tasks: answering and transferring phone calls, using office equipment, greeting patients, notifying therapists, and directing patients to the appropriate area. Required Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent. At least 1 year of experience in a physical therapy department in an aide role, utilizing modalities outlined above. Ability to follow oral and written instructions in English and to communicate effectively with patients, therapists, and other departments. Report patient issues, departmental concerns, or interdepartmental problems to the supervising therapist. Read and understand the policy and procedure manual. Demonstrate compliance with safety, hazardous waste, and infection control procedures. Use proper body mechanics to prevent injury to patient or self. Work assigned shifts, overtime, and weekends as requested. Adhere to all departmental policies and procedures, including annual updates of emergency procedures. Preferred Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Health Sciences or a related field. Required Licenses & Certifications Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Provider from the American Heart Association. Fire Life Safety Training (LA City). If no card upon hire, obtain it within 30 days and maintain it through renewal.
