Design Associate

We are seeking an experienced Design Associate to support the planning, design, and construction of large-scale educational facility capital improvement projects. This position is ideal for an architectural or design professional with experience coordinating design activities, reviewing construction documents, and supporting public agency or educational facility projects. The successful candidate will work closely with project managers, architects, engineers, consultants, and various stakeholders throughout all phases of project planning, design, and construction administration. Key Responsibilities Support planning, design, and construction activities for educational facility capital improvement projects. Review architectural, engineering, and planning drawings, specifications, and construction documents for completeness, coordination, and compliance. Assist with design coordination among architects, engineers, consultants, contractors, and internal stakeholders. Prepare reports, presentations, project documentation, and technical research to support project planning and decision‑making. Maintain project files, design documentation, and technical records throughout the project lifecycle. Review consultant deliverables, contract documentation, invoices, and related project records for completeness and compliance. Coordinate project activities with multiple departments, consultants, and public agencies. Participate in site visits, field investigations, facility assessments, and data collection activities. Support community outreach efforts and stakeholder engagement related to capital improvement projects. Assist with construction administration activities, including design document coordination and project closeout support. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Engineering, Planning, or a related field . 5+ years of professional experience in an architectural, engineering, or planning environment. Minimum 3 years of experience supporting educational facilities or similar public agency capital improvement projects. Experience reviewing architectural, engineering, and construction documents. Experience coordinating multidisciplinary design teams and supporting project planning and construction activities. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Preferred Qualifications Experience with K-12, higher education, or other public‑sector capital improvement programs. Knowledge of California building regulations and educational facility requirements. Experience with design coordination, construction administration, and consultant management. Familiarity with accessibility, life safety, and sustainability requirements.
