Design Associate

Francison Consulting, Inc. is seeking a Design Associate to support the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) Facilities Services Division. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced design professional with educational facilities experience who is passionate about supporting the planning, design, and construction of projects that positively impact students and communities throughout Los Angeles. The Design Associate will provide technical and administrative support to Planning and Development staff while assisting with architectural, engineering, and planning activities throughout the project lifecycle. Support Planning and Development staff with educational facility planning, design, and construction projects. Assist with the management of Architectural Engineering (A/E) contracts and consulting services. Read and interpret architectural, engineering, and planning documents. Collect, organize, and analyze project data for reports and presentations. Assist in preparing reports, studies, and project research. Maintain and update technical project files and documentation. Review plans and construction documents for compliance with LAUSD standards and applicable federal, state, and local codes. Prepare and review internal documentation, including Architectural Engineering contracts and invoices. Coordinate with various District departments, including Environmental Health and Safety, A/E Design Services, Maintenance and Operations, Furniture and Interiors Group, Project Execution, and Local Districts. Participate in community outreach efforts supporting District building projects. Perform other related duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Experience Minimum five (5) years of full-time professional experience in an architecture and design environment. Experience performing architectural, engineering, or planning design activities, coordinating design disciplines, conducting surveys and field investigations, and reviewing architectural and engineering documentation. Minimum three (3) years of experience supporting the design, planning, and construction of educational facilities or a similar public agency. Education Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Architecture, Engineering, or Planning. Required Knowledge and Skills Architectural, engineering, and planning terminology. Knowledge of building materials and technical detailing. Research methods, planning studies, and surveys. Microsoft Office. AutoCAD. Revit. Ability to analyze architectural and engineering problems and recommend practical solutions. Knowledge of California Department of Education requirements, Division of the State Architect (DSA), Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), California Title 24, CalGreen, fire codes, and applicable building and engineering codes.
