Under the general direction of the Supervisor II, the Supervisor I provides direction and supervision to the Licensing Section team of analytical, technical and clerical support staff within the Licensing Unit. The manager performs duties in the coordination and management of the educational institution approval to operate program functions.

Working Conditions

Candidates who reside outside of the State of California may be admitted to the job interview. However, they must reside in the State of California once they are hired and start working.

Effective July 1, 2025, the State of California implemented the Personal Leave Program 2025 (PLP 2025) which reduces an employee's monthly salary in exchange for leave credits. Employees appointed to this classification will have their monthly salary reduced and will accrue hours of PLP 2025 on the first day of each pay period as outlined on "Section 2113 - Personal Leave Program (PLP)" of the CalHR Manual. The salary range(s) included on this job posting do not reflect the reduction in pay.

The incumbent works 40 hours per week in an office setting. Beginning July 1st, 2025, per Executive Order N-22-25, BPPE employees will be required to report into office four days a week.

The position is headquartered in Sacramento, CA.

Special Requirements

Conflict of Interest : This position is subject to Title 16, section 3830 of the California Code of Regulations, the Department of Consumer Affairs' Conflict of Interest Regulations. The incumbent is required to submit a Statement of Economic Interests (Form 700) within 30 days of assuming office, annually by April 1, and within 30 days of leaving office.

STATEMENT OF QUALIFCATIONS REQUIREMENTS

Applicants must submit a Statement of Qualifications (SOQ). The SOQ must be a minimum of one (1) page and shall not exceed two (2) pages. The SOQ must be single spaced, with 12-pt font.

1. Describe your experience leading, supervising, or providing direction to staff responsible for analytical and technical work. Provide a specific example of how you established expectations, monitored performance, provide feedback or coaching, and addressed a performance or quality issue. What was the outcome. 

2. Describe a time you were responsible for managing a high-volume or complex workload, identified work that was delayed or at risk, prioritized assignments, and held staff accountable for completing the work timely and accurately. 

3. Describe a process, workflow, or recurring operational problem you helped improved. Explain how you identified the problem, what information you used, the changes you implemented, and the results.
