POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT Accounting Specialist The North Carolina Board of Nursing seeks qualified applicants for the Accounting Specialist position in the Accounting Department. This position plays a critical role in supporting daily accounting operations, maintaining accurate financial records, and processing month- and year-end close processes. The Accounting Specialist ensures compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), internal controls, organizational policies, and laws governing occupational licensing boards, while providing reliable financial data to support management decision making. The ideal candidate demonstrates strong attention to detail and exceptional organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines. This individual possesses excellent written and verbal communication skills, enabling clear, professional interactions with stakeholders. Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities are essential, along with sound judgment and the ability to identify and resolve discrepancies efficiently. Key Responsibilities: Support daily accounting operations and financial transactions Maintain accurate and organized financial records Process month-end and year-end closing activities Ensure compliance with GAAP, internal controls, and Board policies Analyze financial data and prepare reports for management Collaborate with internal departments to support financial processes Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or business. At least two years of experience. Knowledge of basic accounting and mathematical principles, including cash reconciliation, account reconciliation, and internal controls. General knowledge of automated accounts payable and payroll systems.
