Administrative Specialist I (S)
This Administrative Specialist I is a non-sworn position in the Sex Offender Coordination Unit (SOCU) within the Criminal Information and Identification Section of the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation. The primary purpose of this position is to support the North Carolina Sex Offender Registration Program mandated by Federal and State regulations. This position must maintain current knowledge and understanding in all areas of this field. Key Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Aid law enforcement and the public regarding the NC Sex Offender Registration program and NC Sex Offender Registry.
- Provide extensive customer service to law enforcement agencies and citizens regarding registration procedures, current NC and federal legislation for sex offender registration rules and regulations.
- Provide verification of registration status and/or proper data entry.
- Monitor and respond to Sex Offender Registry unit email requests for information and assistance.
- Assist with processing and mailing Sex Offender Verification Letters.
- Support SOCU supervisor with training initiatives and provide first line administrative support as new public/private sex offender projects are instituted.
- Assist SOCU supervisor in processing offender registration terminations.
Position/Physical Requirements:
- Must be a U.S. citizen due to security requirements for accessing SBI applications to which the person in this position must have access.
- Obtaining Division of Criminal Information (DCI) Network certification within 3 months of hire is required for this position.
- NC CJLEADS Training within 3 months of hire is required for this position.
Salary Range: $39,244 - $57,000

The Minimum Education and Experience (E&E) is REQUIRED to qualify for this position. Management Preferences:
- Demonstrated experience utilizing excellent written and oral communication.
- Demonstrated experience handling and maintaining sensitive and confidential information in a business setting.
- Demonstrated experience with Microsoft Word in a business setting.
- Demonstrated experience with reviewing documents/files for accuracy and appropriate documentation including spelling, punctuation and grammatical correctness in a business setting.
This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with Benefits.
Selected candidates will undergo and must successfully complete a comprehensive background investigation which includes: pre-employment polygraph examination; credit and arrest checks; interviews with associates, personal and business references; verification interviews of employers; verification of education achievement; urinalysis drug screening; and submission of fingerprints.
Minimum Education and Experience
High school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) diploma AND two years of related administrative experience; OR equivalent combination of education and experience.

Per North Carolina General Statute 143B-1209.54, applicants hired into a position certified as a criminal justice officer or justice officer are required to electronically submit fingerprints to the NC State Bureau of Investigation for a state and national criminal history record check and enrollment in the Federal Bureau of Investigation's Next Generation Identification (NGI) System and Criminal Justice Record of Arrest and Prosecution Background (Rap Back) Service. This is in addition to submitting fingerprints during the application process.
Veteran's and National Guard Preference
Applicants seeking Veteran's Preference must attach a DD Form 214, Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty, along with the state application.
Applicants seeking National Guard Preference must attach an NGB 23A (RPAS), along with the state application if they are a current member of the NC National Guard in good standing.
