Executive Director

The Executive Director (ED) serves as the chief administrative and community relations officer of the Chugiak-Eagle River Chamber of Commerce. The ED is responsible for advancing the Chamber's mission of supporting local businesses, strengthening the local economy, fostering community partnerships, and enhancing the quality of life in the Chugiak-Eagle River area. Working closely with the Board of Directors, Chamber members, local governments, and community stakeholders, the Executive Director oversees Chamber operations, membership engagement, financial stewardship, communications, advocacy efforts, and strategic initiatives. The position emphasizes relationship management, member retenƟon, community visibility, and organizational sustainability. Key Responsibilities Organizational Leadership Implement the strategic direction and goals established by the Board of Directors. Serve as the primary representative and spokesperson for the Chamber. Maintain regular communication with the Board and provide timely operational, financial, and membership updates. Support Board committees and assist in executing Board-approved initiatives. Promote the Chamber's mission, programs, and value within the community. Membership Development Lead efforts to recruit, retain, and engage Chamber members. Develop strategies to increase membership value and participation. Build strong relationships with businesses, nonprofit organizations, and community leaders. Coordinate member outreach, onboarding, renewals, and recognition efforts. Facilitate networking opportunities and business connections among Chamber members. Program & Event Coordination Work collaboratively with contracted event coordinators, volunteers, and committees to plan and execute Chamber events and programs. Oversee event budgets, sponsorship efforts, and overall event success. Coordinate ribbon cuttings, business mixers, membership luncheons, and other Chamber functions. Ensure events align with Chamber goals and provide value to members and sponsors. Support major community events through coordination, promotion, and stakeholder Advocacy & Community Relations Represent the interests of Chamber members with local and regional leaders. Maintain productive relationships with elected officials, government agencies, and community organizations. Monitor issues affecting the local business community and communicate relevant information to members. Collaborate with economic development and tourism partners when appropriate. Promote a positive business climate within the community. Communications & Marketing Oversee Chamber communications, including newsletters, email campaigns, website content, and social media channels. Promote member businesses and Chamber activities through various communication platforms. Manage public relations efforts and media engagement. Ensure a consistent and professional Chamber brand and public presence. Operations & Financial Management Manage day-to-day Chamber operations in an efficient and fiscally responsible manner. Prepare and monitor the annual operating budget in partnership with the Board Treasurer. Maintain accurate financial and membership records. Ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, contracts, and Chamber policies. Oversee contracted service providers, vendors, volunteers, and any staff resources. Prepare reports and information necessary for Board meetings and organizational planning. Supervise Chamber staff, contractors, and volunteers as needed. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Business, Communications, Public Administration, or a related field (or equivalent combination of education and professional experience). Three or more years of leadership experience in nonprofit management, business development, or a related field. Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills. Experience in managing budgets, financial reporting, fundraising, and membership engagement. Proficiency with office and digital tools (e.g., QuickBooks, CRM software, Microsoft Office, social Preferred Skills & Attributes Knowledge of or connection to the Chugiak-Eagle River business community Familiarity with Chamber of Commerce operaƟons, economic development, or membershipbased organizations Experience working with volunteer boards and commiƩees Community-oriented and service-minded. Grant writing, fundraising, sponsorship development, and/or partnership-building experience. Compensation Salary commensurate with experience.
