Position Title Agricultural/Hort Specialist - Advanced Posting Information Position Number: 20075624 Vacancy ID: P021151 Open Date: 06/26/2026 Application Deadline: 07/06/2026 Salary Grade: NC05 / GN07 Position Type: Permanent Staff (SHRA) Job Summary Maintains existing and new landscapes that are part of campus buildings, roof and memorial gardens. Installs all new plant material according to plans and approved horticultural practices and procedures; maintains beds through pruning, weeding, mulching, fertilizing and spraying of plant materials, including pesticides. May maintain detailed records of plant species and may install and maintain zone area systems in assigned area. Uses specialized tools for cultivation, maintenance, and transportation of plants. Valid NC Driver’s License or ability to obtain is required. Sign‑on bonus of $4,451 is available and paid in two installments within 12 months of hire. Minimum Education & Experience Requirements Graduation from high school with some experience in horticultural work or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Management Preferences Advanced level of experience in commercial landscaping or grounds maintenance, including a supervisory role. Experience in irrigation management, power equipment operation, and plant knowledge. Strong verbal and written communication skills to delegate tasks and maintain effective relationships. Required Licenses & Certifications Valid NC Driver’s License or ability to obtain. North Carolina Pesticide Applicator License. Special Physical/Mental Requirements Ability to bend, stoop, lift, work from a ladder or airlift, and walk on varied terrain for extended periods. Ability to move objects up to 50 pounds. Ability to wear personal protective equipment. Position/Schedule Requirements Evening work occasionally, night work occasionally, on‑call occasionally, overtime occasionally, weekend work occasionally.
