Role Summary: Under the general direction of the Division Director, the Apprentice Coordinator is responsible for developing and overseeing trade and technical profession on-the-job training and career development programs in the Facilities Management Division (FMD). Collaborate with FMD leadership on identifying skill gaps and creating action plans to acquire the necessary staff knowledge and experience. Research and develop standards and requirements for successful completion of Trades apprenticeship programs, Youth Apprentice Programs, and other advancement processes. Develop and sustain partnerships with local educational institutions and technical skills training agencies. Responsible for managing and tracking employee progress in training program and regularly reporting status to FMD leadership. Engage employees and coach for successful completion of development plans. Coordinate and facilitate training programs, workshops, and seminars to enhance employees' skills and knowledge. Stay informed about industry trends, emerging relevant job roles, and advancements in fields relevant to facilities management. Evaluate and report the effectiveness of program and collaborate with FMD leadership to adjust strategies as needed.
Role Responsibilities:
- Research and develop selection standards and requirements for successful completion of apprenticeship programs.
- Collaborate with FMD leadership, State and local apprenticeship program managers and skilled trades staff to develop and facilitate the program.
- Collaborate with other County Departments or Divisions during development and facilitation.
- Create a structured training plan that outlines the skills, knowledge, and competencies apprentices need to acquire during their apprenticeship. Identify the different stages of training and set milestones for progression.
- Coordinate and provide classroom-based technical instruction to complement the on-the-job training. This may include topics such as safety procedures, theory, code regulations, and trade-specific knowledge.
- Cultivate a strategy for recruitment, assessment, development and retention throughout the apprentice lifecycle.
- Progress monitoring and evaluation: Regularly assess the progress of apprentices through evaluations, exams, and practical assessments. Provide constructive feedback and guidance to help them improve their skills.
- Collaborate with leadership to guide apprentices to opportunities to work in different areas or departments within the trade to gain a broad understanding of the trade and its various specialties.
- Maintain records of apprentices' training hours, skills learned, and competencies achieved. Keep track of their performance, attendance, and any additional training or certifications they acquire.
- Build relationships with internal and external stakeholders to provide support and resources to apprentices.
- Work closely with State and local Trade apprenticeship and Youth Apprentice Program managers to establish program best practices and apprenticeship pipeline.
- Assist with building and tracking external training and educational curriculum.
- Work with Division Directors and Managers to identify skill gaps, and with employees to identify career aspirations.
- Develop and document personalized training and development programs for FMD employees that address both aspirations and skills gaps.
- Assess and regularly report progress of training and development programs to Division Directors and Managers.
- Participate with Division Directors and Managers in the assessment and planning for organization structural changes that align employee aspirations with Division strategic plan.
- Assist in the development and review of new roles, including JEQ development and processing.
- Develop recommendations and plans to incorporate Youth Apprenticeships into staffing plans.
- Advocate for program funding and resources.
- Identify need and advocate for policy change to support these programs.
- Assist in the evaluation of staff readiness for advancement.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Current resident of Wisconsin
- Valid State of Wisconsin driver's license at time of hire and maintained throughout employment.
- Must possess a bachelor's degree and at least two (2) years of experience in administrative support and/or project management.
- -OR- has completed a registered apprenticeship program AND 5 years of experience in a skilled trade with demonstrated roles involving training, mentorship or program coordination.
- Intermediate knowledge of all related computer and software applications, such as word processing and spreadsheets.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Strong customer service and constituent relations. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Strong analytical and organizational skills. Ability to work independently. Ability to research and seek resources. Responsiveness and reliability follow through.
