The Medical Education Learning Specialist advances effective and pragmatic student learning and academic counseling programs to meet the diverse learning needs of the medical student body, and has academic counseling responsibilities focused on individual learning consultations for first - fourth year medical students to ensure effective student academic support and success. **Duties include, but are not limited to:*** Diagnose root causes leading to suboptimal academic/clinical performance in individual medical students and provide a learning prescription for success.* Lectures and Small Group Teaching to medical students regarding strategies to optimize academic/clinical medical school performance.* Longitudinal documentation and monitoring of student progress for all consulted students.* Individual Academic Counseling Consultation and Learning Plan for M1-M2 Students aligned to pre-clinical curricular Blocks 1-6.* Individual Academic Counseling Consultation and Learning Plan for M3 students aligned to clinical clerkships.* Individual Academic Counseling Consultation and Learning Plan for M2 and M4 students preparing for the United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE), Step 1 and Step 2 CK. **Work Interactions**Reporting to the Assistant Dean of Student Learning and housed under the SOM Office of Student Affairs, the Medical Education Learning Specialist primarily engages with medical students and operates on a student appointment basis, which is facilitated through an online form. Staff members have full access to university resources to ensure normal business operations for both pre-scheduled and urgent needs. All levels of office programming and structures can be facilitated electronically via work-issued laptop and university phone. **Requirements and Qualifications*** Masters degree, PhD or EdD degree in educational psychology, adult learning, or health professions education* At least one to two years of experience providing academic counseling to medical students at an allopathic or osteopathic medical school.* Academic Counseling: “The process between the medical student and an academic counselor to discuss academic difficulties and to help the medical student acquire more effective and efficient abilities in areas such as study skills, reading skills, and/or test-taking skills.” (LCME. Accessed December 26, 2025. )* Demonstrated proficiency in translating student learning theory to individual learning plans, student centered academic counseling and learning strategy aligned to medical education curricular blocks.* Excellent interpersonal, intercultural, and communication skills for relational engagement across a diverse population of students with varying learning and support needs.* Demonstrated ability to work effectively, independently, as part of a team, and across units/leadership.**Preferred Qualifications*** A combination of: (1) a Master’s degree and a PhD or EdD in educational psychology, adult learning, or health professions education; and (2) an MD, DO, or MBBS.* Medical Education work experience at an allopathic or osteopathic medical school as a learning specialist.* Experience developing educational materials and/or teaching that connects basic science, clinical reasoning, and educational pedagogy and theory.* Experience with designing individual learning plans (ILPs) for diverse populations of medical students. **Work Mode Designation**This position has been designated as **Remote**.
