Finance Analyst - MUSC Foundation

Job Description Summary The MUSC Foundation manages approximately $1 billion in total assets, including $918 million in investments and $49 million in real estate, with remaining assets held in various other categories. The Foundation’s mission is to support the educational, research, clinical, and strategic programs of the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC), the Medical University Hospital Authority, and other related entities. MUSC Foundation is searching for a Finance Analyst who is responsible for bank reconciliations, treasury maintenance, general ledger reconciliations, journal entries and audit support. Required Education Bachelor’s degree or minimum of two years of experience in accounting, finance, or a related field. Job Duties 35% Bank Reconciliation – Responsible for timely and accurate preparation of bank account reconciliations for all entities (MUSC Foundation, MUSC Events LLC, 1824 Health Ventures LLC, etc.). Reconciles bank transactions within the MUSC Foundation checking accounts on a daily basis and investigates and resolves discrepancies between bank statements and general ledger balances. 25% Investment Reviews – Reconciles investment accounts including both the long‑term and short‑term pools along with planned gift portfolios; performs reviews of transaction codes used for tracking investment balances and other activity to ensure completeness of records; generates, monitors, updates, and ensures accuracy of monthly allocations of investment activity across approximately 1,700 projects; records investment‑related transactions; maintains investment schedules and audit schedules. 15% Real Estate Records – Reconciles real estate transactions, including acquisitions, dispositions, rents, and related expenses; maintains detailed supporting schedules for real‑estate assets and related liabilities; maintains and updates the Fixed Asset System including generating monthly depreciation journal entries and maintaining schedules; provides quarterly cash flow analysis for rental activities; calculates and records derivative activities associated with interest rate swaps; prepares audit schedules for real estate. 15% Accounting Support – Reconciles asset and liability accounts; follows and updates standard operating procedures; coordinates with Finance Director to prepare journal entries associated with daily, monthly, and quarterly money transfers associated with treasury management; provides audit assistance. 10% Other Duties/Special Projects – Other duties and responsibilities as assigned; provides back‑up to other staff accountants; assists with system implementation and improvement. Qualifications Basic knowledge of accounting principles Knowledge of the principles, practices, theories and terminology of accounting, banking, financial management or investment Ability to learn and use new software and programs Advanced Microsoft Excel skills Ability to proficiently apply mathematical concepts Ability to analyze and interpret complex financial data and reports Ability to perform qualitative and quantitative analysis Organized, inquisitive, diligent, and self‑directed Detail oriented High standards of work quality and presentation Physical Requirements Continuous requirements are to work indoors; possess good finger dexterity; maintain tactile sensory functions; maintain 20/40 vision corrected in one eye or with both eyes; maintain good peripheral vision capabilities; and maintain hearing acuity with correction. Infrequent requirements are to work outdoors in all weather and temperature extremes; work in confined/cramped spaces and dusty areas; kneel and squat to perform job functions; perform pinching operations; lift and carry 15 lbs. unassisted; lift objects up to 15 lbs. from floor level to a height of 36 inches unassisted; and push or pull objects up to 15 lbs. unassisted.
