BATTALION CHIEF Farmington Fire is excited to announce a Battalion Chief of Medical Services Position now open. Candidates must possess the requisite knowledge, training and experience needed to successfully serve as the Battalion Chief of Medical Services.
Job Title: Battalion Chief Medical Division Department: Fire Report To: Fire Chief Wage: $103,168 - $139,048 Close Date: September 6th, 2026 Annual Hours: 2920 Davis County C Shift FLSA Status: Exempt EEO Category: Professional Protective Service Workers The chosen candidate will be assigned to an operational shift with significant administrative duties. The operational shift is a 48/96 schedule that falls on the Davis County C shift schedule. The position is salaried, however does require off duty assignments.
Farmington City provides a full comprehensive benefit program including: PEHP Medical plan options Traditional, or High-Deductible plan with a city contribution of $2200 for Employee only or $4400 for Family plans. Or decline medical coverage and the city will contribute into your retirement plan. 145 hours of Holiday Hours + 134 Hours Paid Sick Leave + Annual Leave of 134 hours. 224 hours of Parental Leave (with Qualifying event)
$1,000 Wellness Reimbursement Program. $500 Medical Deductible Reimbursement Program. City paid Short-term and Long-term disability plans. $3,000 Employee Education Assistance. The Battalion Chief testing process is anticipated to be scheduled during the week of September 20-25th . This is subject to change if needed. The testing dates will be made available once a candidate is scheduled for testing.

Panel Interview A second interview may be required.

Position Summary: This position provides strategic and operational leadership for an assigned shift/ crew. Directing emergency response operations, supervising personnel, and managing daily administrative functions. This position ensures safe, effective and efficient service delivery through incident command, leadership development, operational readiness, and compliance with department policies/ laws and standards while fostering collaboration, accountability and a high level of customer service to the community. Positional responsibilities will include both shift and administrative requirements.

Physical Requirements:
The physical requirements listed below represent the essential functions of the Fire Engineer position and are necessary to perform the job safely and effectively; Must have the physical capability to lift, carry, drag, push, or move items weighing up to 75 pounds independently and up to 100 pounds with team assistance. Employee must be able to perform sustained physical activity, including climbing stairs, advancing hose lines, operating tools, and conducting rescue tasks while wearing full structural firefighting personal protective equipment in high-heat, low-visibility environments. Firefighters frequently walk, run, crawl, crouch, kneel, stoop, and climb ladders or stairs, maintaining balance on uneven or elevated surfaces. They must be able to read gauges, instruments, maps, and digital displays and quickly observe hazards in dynamic and rapidly changing situations. Acute hearing is essential for detecting radios, alarms, and verbal commands in high ambient noise and effective communication, via radio, intercom, verbal, and written forms is critical in emergency settings. The employee will also need the endurance to sit or stand for extended periods while remaining alert and responsive to operational demands. Work Environment:
Work may occur indoors or outdoors and in all weather conditions. Personnel may be exposed to loud noise, heat, smoke, hazardous materials, bloodborne pathogens, traffic hazards confined spaces, unstable structures and emotionally stressful situations.

- Promote and model department's mission, vision and values.
- Provide leadership, supervision, mentoring and performance management for crew.
- Supervises, directs, and evaluates assigned firefighters and ensures quality of work.
- Respond and command emergency incidents, ensuring safe, effective and efficient operations.
- Monitor operational readiness of personnel, apparatus, equipment & resources.
- Conduct performance evaluations, address performance issues as needed.
- Recommend personnel actions, including hiring, promotion, and discipline.
- Participate in strategic planning, budgeting, purchasing and management of assigned programs, equipment, or special projects.
- Complete and review reports, records, investigations and other admin documentation accurately and in a timely manner.
- Foster positive working relationships with employees, elected officials, partner agencies and the public.
- Follows and enforces department policies and procedures, and protocols.
- Participate in emergency preparedness, disaster planning, community risk reduction and public education initiatives.
- Attend meetings, committees and professional development activities as assigned.
- Maintain physical and mental capabilities necessary to safely carry out duties.
- Assume command of the department in absence of Fire Chief as designated.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Considerable knowledge of firefighting methods, techniques and procedures.
- Firefighting equipment types, varieties and most appropriate effective use.
- State and city codes, laws, regulations and ordinances related to fire prevention, fire vehicle equipment and apparatus operation.
- Oversee and manage an assigned specialty team (Fire, Medical, Administrative/Logistics, Fire Prevention, Emergency Management)
- Incident Command and Leadership.
- Usage of Fire service equipment, apparatus, and safety systems.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills for coordinating with team members and reporting incidents with accuracy.
- Ability to react and or adapt quickly, make decisions under stress, and perform multiple tasks simultaneously
- Follow strict safety protocols to protect self and others
- Perform strenuous physical labor under extreme weather conditions.
- Associate's degree in a related field
- A valid Utah Driver's License and acceptable driver's history
- Candidates must have at least eight (8) years of full-time firefighting experience. with a minimum of three (3) years in an officer position.
- Utah State Firefighter I and Firefighter II
- State Wildland Firefighter I
- Haz-Mat Operations
- ADO Pumper Operator and Aerial certifications
- Advanced EMT or Paramedic license
- Utah State Fire Officer 1
- NIMS 100, 200, 700, and 800
- Maintain physical condition to perform essential duties
- Pass the annual Physical Fitness Minimum Standards / Agility Test.
- *Preferred minimum of two (2) years of service with the Farmington Fire Department
- Supervising Fire Officer designation
- Executive Fire Officer designation
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field
- Utah State EMS or Fire Service Instructor 1; within one (1) year of hire- position dependent.
- Utah State Rescue Technician; within two (2) years of hire
- UFRA CTC Phase 1 & 2; within two (2) years of hire.
- NIMS 300, 400, positional specific course
