Locum MD (Medical Doctor), DO (Osteopathic Doctor) Gastroenterology

Description This is a contract, full-time position designed for a driven associate-level physician who brings both clinical expertise and a patient-centered approach to a dynamic medical practice environment. As a Locum Gastroenterologist, you will play a vital role in delivering comprehensive care for patients with digestive and liver disorders. Responsibilities Provide direct patient care in an outpatient and/or inpatient setting, specializing in the diagnosis and treatment of gastrointestinal conditions. Perform and interpret diagnostic procedures, including upper endoscopy (EGD), colonoscopy, and other gastroenterology-related interventions. Develop individualized treatment plans based on patient history, exam findings, and diagnostic results. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including surgeons, radiologists, nutritionists, and primary care physicians, to ensure comprehensive patient management. Document patient encounters accurately and efficiently in electronic medical records (EMR) systems. Provide timely consultation and follow-up care, ensuring continuity and high-quality outcomes. Educate patients and their families on disease prevention, treatment options, and lifestyle modifications. Participate in on-call coverage as required, ensuring 24/7 availability for emergency gastrointestinal cases. Adhere to all medical, ethical, and legal standards, including HIPAA and institutional policies. Contribute to quality improvement initiatives and clinical research efforts within the practice. Requirements Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree from an accredited medical school. Board certification or active board eligibility in Gastroenterology is required. Active and unrestricted medical license in Missouri, or willingness to obtain licensure prior to start. Completion of an accredited residency in Internal Medicine and a fellowship in Gastroenterology. Minimum of 2-3 years of clinical experience in gastroenterology, including residency/fellowship experience. Proficiency in endoscopic procedures such as colonoscopy, EGD, and polypectomy; advanced procedures (ERCP, EUS) are a plus. Strong interpersonal and communication skills to interact effectively with patients, families, and healthcare staff. Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within a team‑based care model. Commitment to delivering compassionate, evidence-based, and culturally sensitive care. US work authorization is required; contract and locum experience is preferred but not mandatory.
