About the Position

Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: MedSurg/Tele Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12-hour Day Shift Hours per Shift: 36 Experience: Minimum 18 months Med/Surg Tele RN experience required License: Current RN License Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS Must-Have: 18 months Med/Tele RN experience; BLS, ACLS, NIHSS Description: The nursing unit consists of 28 beds. The patient population includes orthopedic, spine, trauma, vascular surgeries, and medical overflow. The nurse-to-patient ratio is typically 1:4-6, with higher ratios during surge times potentially reaching 1:7-8. Required skills include general post-surgical care, incision care, assessment, managing drains and chest tubes, wound care, mobility assistance, education, tracheostomy care, and NG tube insertion. A certified nursing assistant provides support with phlebotomy, activities of daily living, and Foley catheter management. There is an indirect charge nurse available for additional support. The department has access to 24/7 respiratory therapy and hospitalist services. Remote telemetry monitoring is used for patient observation. Additional support includes a house supervisor for resource assistance and safety attendants for patients needing extra observation. A behavioral response team is available for de-escalation measures. Rapid response and code teams are in place for emergencies. The facility uses an electronic medical record system and various medical equipment including IV pumps and monitors. Floating may be required within the region based on patient needs. The unit culture is positive and supportive.
