About the Position

Job Title: RN Profession: Nursing Specialty: MedSurg/Tele Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12hr Day Shift Hours per Shift: 36 Experience: 18 months of Med/Tele RN experience License: Required RN License Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS Must-Have: 18 months of Med/Tele RN experience BLS, ACLS, NIHSS Description: The facility is a trauma level III teaching hospital with 457 licensed beds. It is designated as a Chest Pain Center and a Stroke Center of Excellence. It also serves as a Bariatric Center of Excellence. The Emergency Observation Unit contains 10 beds with an average daily census of 8 patients. Common patient types and diagnoses include chest pain, syncope, and angina. Required skills for this role include general Med/Tele skillset: - Stroke experience - Cardiac rhythm interpretation - Trach care - PIV starts - Chest tube management - NGT placement - Drain and tube management, including Dobhoff, PEG tubes, and JP drains - Foley insertion and management - PCA pump management Medication management includes cardiac drips, Heparin, blood products, and IV fluids. Staffing ratios typically allow for an RN to patient ratio of 1:5. Support within the department includes a supervisor and a charge RN, who may or may not have patients. Resource RNs assist with admissions and discharges. There are hospitalists available 24/7 who are not dedicated to this unit. Phlebotomy is a combined effort between RNs and the IV team. Technology and equipment used include an EMR system and specific IV pumps and medication dispensing systems. Floating may occur within the region and scope of practice as needed. Scheduling requires weekend rotation every other week and travelers work 75% of holidays. Requests for time off can be approved up to 6 days off, excluding holidays. The department fosters a great team environment with activities such as a unit book club and Netflix watching clubs.
