Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced Accounts Receivable (AR) Representative to manage and resolve complex accounts receivable in a multi speciality environment. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in professional billing, advanced payer follow-up skills, and hands-on experience working in Athena IDX. Experience with Epic is strongly preferred. Experience with Neurosurgery and Radiation Oncology specialities are preferred.
This role requires a high level of independence, critical thinking, and expertise in resolving aged, high-dollar, and technically complex claims.
Key Responsibilities
- Full-cycle accounts receivable for professional medical billing
- Perform detailed follow-up on unpaid, underpaid, or denied medical claims
- Analyze EOBs and remittance advice to identify payment discrepancies
- Research and resolve medical claims denials related to medical necessity, coding, authorization, bundling, and payer policy
- Initiate and manage medical claims appeals, including preparation of supporting documentation
- Work collaboratively with coding, authorization, and clinical teams to resolve medical claim issues
- Accurately document all account activity in IDX and/or Epic
- Identify trends and escalate systemic payer issues as appropriate
- Ensure compliance with payer contracts and regulatory requirements
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 3–5 years of Accounts Receivable experience in physician billing
- Proven success working complex, high-dollar surgical claims
- Athena IDX system experience strongly preferred
- Strong knowledge of CPT, ICD-10, modifiers, and payer reimbursement methodologies
- Ability to independently prioritize and manage AR workload
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in Epic
- Neurosurgery and/or Radiation Oncology specialty AR experience strongly preferred
- Prior experience with appeals and dispute resolution for surgical specialties
- Familiariarity with all payers in the Maryland and/or Georgia markets
