Job Details The Senior Project Accountant will serve as a key member of the finance team, partnering with Project Managers, Operations, and Executive Leadership to ensure accurate financial reporting and project performance tracking. This role will own project accounting functions from project setup through closeout, with a strong focus on job costing, WIP reporting, contract billing, lien waiver management, and project profitability analysis. Key Responsibilities Project Accounting & Job Costing: Maintain accurate project budgets, cost codes, and job cost reporting; monitor project costs and compare actual performance against budgets and forecasts; analyze project profitability and identify cost variances and potential risks; collaborate with Project Managers for accurate cost allocation and financial tracking. Work‑in‑Progress (WIP) Reporting: Prepare and maintain monthly WIP schedules; review project status, earned revenue, over/under billings, and estimated costs to complete; partner with operations teams for accurate percentage‑of‑completion reporting; assist with monthly and quarterly financial close processes related to project accounting. Billing & Revenue Recognition: Prepare and process owner billings, including AIA progress billings; manage contract values, change orders, retention schedules, and billing reconciliations; ensure timely and accurate invoicing in accordance with contract requirements; support revenue recognition and project forecasting. Lien Waivers & Compliance: Manage subcontractor documentation, including lien waivers and insurance certificates; review and track conditional and unconditional lien waivers; ensure billing packages contain all required supporting documentation; support audit requests and compliance reviews. Project Closeouts: Coordinate financial project closeout activities; reconcile final contract values, change orders, retainage balances, and outstanding commitments; ensure all project financial records are complete and properly documented; assist with final owner billings and profitability analysis. Financial Reporting & Process Improvement: Prepare project‑level financial reports and dashboards for management; support month‑end and year‑end close activities; assist in improving project accounting processes, controls, and reporting capabilities; partner with accounting leadership on system enhancements and process optimization initiatives. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Construction Management, or related field. 5+ years of construction or project accounting experience within a general contractor, specialty contractor, or construction‑related organization. Strong knowledge of: job costing, WIP reporting, AIA billings, retainage accounting, lien waivers, construction contracts and change orders, project closeouts. Experience working closely with Project Managers and Operations teams. Advanced Excel skills and strong analytical capabilities. Experience with construction accounting software such as Viewpoint Vista, CMiC, Sage 300 CRE, Foundation, Procore, or similar systems preferred.
