Substance Abuse Case Worker - BARC Residential Location: United States, Florida, Coral Springs Benefits Medical, dental, life, and vision insurance Vacation time, paid holidays, sick time, and retirement plan Tuition reimbursement up to $2,000 annually Job basis leave up to 40 hours Paid parental leave This is a grant funded position. Schedule Sunday through Thursday, 3:00 PM to 11:30 PM Overview The Substance Abuse Case Worker (BARC Residential) supports clinical, nursing, and professional staff in delivering compassionate, high‑quality care within the Broward County Addiction Recovery Center. The role ensures smooth daily operations across residential, inpatient, and admissions settings, providing non‑clinical case support, assisting with treatment plan implementation, monitoring participant behavior, and maintaining safety and confidentiality. Responsibilities Assist clinical, professional, and nursing staff with routine tasks and implementation of treatment plans. Interact with and monitor program participants, encouraging participation in scheduled activities and supporting recovery behaviors. Conduct client orientation, intake processing, and discharge procedures, ensuring accurate documentation and completion of all required items. Provide daily support to residents, including guidance on coping skills, life skills, and recovery‑based behaviors. Assist clients in accessing community resources, completing paperwork, making phone calls, and participating in court hearings as needed. Maintain participant confidentiality in accordance with agency policy and regulations. Monitor visitors and participants to ensure safety and compliance with program rules. Perform room checks, headcounts, facility rounds, and routine safety inspections. Conduct searches, breathalyzers, urine drug screens, CO₂ tests, and vital‑sign checks as required. Report unusual, suspicious, or dangerous behaviors to supervisors and clinical staff promptly. Respond to crises using trauma‑informed de‑escalation strategies and document incidents per policy. Assist with AMA prevention efforts, including early identification of risk and supportive engagement. Enter data into required software systems for charting, discharge, billing, and other operational needs. Prepare shift reports and documentation for case staffing. Provide general administrative support such as filing, answering calls, logging program participants, and assisting with scheduling. Maintain accurate records of financial transactions, service fees, and eligibility documentation, including Medicare assistance when applicable. Coordinate with Human Services Coordinators on needs assessments, case management tasks, and discharge planning. Assist with or facilitate group education programs related to recovery, treatment, and prevention. Speak to groups or community organizations about addiction, substance use, and recovery. Participate in community outreach activities and provide support to individuals in recovery. Help maintain a safe, clean, and supportive environment for staff and participants. Perform tasks such as defrosting/cleaning refrigerators and freezers, monitoring laundry times, and assisting with general facility upkeep. Maintain open communication with supervisors, clinical staff, nursing, and colleagues to ensure coordinated participant care. Participate in staff meetings, roll‑call, recreational activities, family‑involvement events, and other required gatherings. Interact with coworkers, program participants, and families consistently with treatment goals and agency policies. Transport or accompany participants to appointments for health care, treatment, or social services. Conduct non‑clinical assessments, develop non‑clinical recovery plans, and make referrals. Inspect participant belongings during admission or as part of program protocols. Participate in education and training programs to maintain and enhance job knowledge and skills. Perform related work as required. Qualifications and Experience Bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology, gerontology, or a closely related field; one year of relevant experience may substitute for each year of required education. At least two years of experience as a caseworker or providing direct client services in an addiction/substance‑abuse treatment or mental health facility or program. Valid Florida Driver’s License may be required. Certifications and Licenses Certified Addiction Counselor (CAC) Certification or other applicable Florida Certification Board certifications. Certified Recovery Peer Specialist (CRPS) or similar through the Florida Certification Board. Preferences Master’s degree in social work, psychology, gerontology, mental health counseling, marriage and family therapy, or related field. Bilingual. Three or more years of experience working with marginalized populations, substance use disorders, and/or co‑occurring disorders. Three or more years working in a trauma‑informed care environment. Physical Demands Performs light work that involves walking or standing most of the time and involves exerting up to 20 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis. Requires skill, adeptness, and speed in the use of fingers, hands, or limbs on repetitive operation of electronic office equipment within moderate tolerances or limits of accuracy.
