The Sous Chef is responsible for assisting the Executive Chef in leading daily culinary operations in a high-volume, scratch kitchen. The ideal candidate will have strong leadership skills, attention to detail, and a passion for authentic barbecue and high-quality food preparation. You will help ensure consistent execution of our menu, maintain kitchen efficiency and cleanliness, and cultivate a positive team environment. We are currently seeking a talented and experienced Sous Chef to join our team. Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with the Executive Chef to manage all aspects of kitchen operations, including prep, execution, inventory, and cleanliness
- Ensure all dishes are prepared to company specifications in taste, appearance, and portioning
- Maintain the highest standards of food safety, cleanliness, and sanitation
- Train, supervise, and mentor kitchen staff; foster a culture of teamwork and accountability
- Assist in managing food and labor costs to achieve company goals
- Support in scheduling and managing daily kitchen workflow, especially during peak service hours
- Uphold the core culinary traditions and standards that define Midwood Smokehouse, while remaining open to innovation
Qualifications & Requirements:
- 2+ years of experience as a Sous Chef or Kitchen Manager in a high-volume, full-service restaurant
- Culinary degree or equivalent hands-on experience in a scratch kitchen environment
- Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills
- Deep appreciation for authentic barbecue and a desire to continue learning and evolving culinary techniques
- Solid understanding of food cost, labor management, and kitchen operations
- Ability to thrive under pressure and maintain a calm, focused presence
- Comfortable working on your feet for extended periods (1012-hour shifts)
- Able to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed
- Must be able to bend, stoop, and lift up to 25 lbs.
