Role Overview The Cost Accounting Manager will lead Cymbiotika’s cost accounting and inventory accounting functions, ensuring accurate inventory valuation, product cost analysis, and operational reporting. This role will directly manage the Inventory Accounting Specialist and serve as a key partner to Supply Chain, Operations, and FP&A. The ideal candidate brings strong technical expertise, leadership capability, and a process improvement mindset suited for a high-growth environment. Key Responsibilities Cost Accounting & Inventory Management Lead all aspects of cost accounting, including average costing, variance analysis, and inventory valuation Manage monthly close activities related to inventory, COGS, and manufacturing costs Ensure accurate tracking of raw materials, work-in-process, and finished goods across 3PLs and internal systems Oversee inventory reconciliations, cycle counts, and physical inventory processes Analyze and report on inventory reserves, obsolescence, and shrinkage Manage, mentor, and develop the Inventory Accounting Specialist Establish clear roles, responsibilities, and performance expectations Review work for accuracy and completeness while driving efficiency in day-to-day processes Identify opportunities for automation and skill development within the function Financial Analysis & Reporting Develop detailed product-level profitability and margin analysis Provide insights into cost drivers, pricing strategies, and operational efficiencies Partner with FP&A on budgeting, forecasting, and cost planning Create dashboards and reporting packages for executive leadership Operations & Supply Chain Partnership Collaborate with Supply Chain and Procurement to improve cost visibility and control Support new product launches with cost modeling and margin analysis Evaluate contract manufacturing, co-packing, and supplier cost structures Assist in freight and logistics cost analysis and optimization Systems & Process Improvement Enhance NetSuite cost accounting functionality and reporting Drive process improvements to increase automation, accuracy, and scalability Implement best practices for inventory controls and cost accounting procedures Support integration and optimization of 3PL and inventory management systems Compliance & Audit Ensure compliance with GAAP and internal accounting policies Support external audits, including inventory and cost-related inquiries Maintain strong documentation and internal controls over inventory and costing Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field 6–10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including cost accounting Prior experience managing or mentoring staff (direct management preferred) Strong experience with inventory accounting in a product-based or CPG company Advanced proficiency in NetSuite (or similar ERP systems) Deep understanding of standard costing and inventory controls Advanced Excel skills and strong analytical capabilities Preferred Qualifications CPA or CMA certification Experience in supplements, food & beverage, or consumer packaged goods (CPG) Experience working with 3PLs and multi-location inventory environments Familiarity with manufacturing or contract manufacturing environments Strong leadership and team development skills Analytical and detail-oriented with strong problem-solving abilities Ability to translate complex data into clear business insights Strong cross-functional collaboration and communication skills Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple priorities Proactive mindset with a focus on continuous improvement Work Location & Schedule This position follows an enforced hybrid schedule, requiring team members to be present in our San Diego, California office at least four days per week (Monday–Thursday). Fridays are available for remote work. This role also requires attendance at all in-person monthly team meetings and quarterly company events. Physical Requirements This role primarily involves office-based work and requires the ability to occasionally lift, carry, or move items up to 20–30 pounds, such as files or office supplies. Employees should be able to sit or stand for extended periods and perform frequent computer-based tasks, including prolonged exposure to a computer screen. Compensation & Total Rewards The salary range for this position is $100,000-120,000 annually. Final compensation will be determined based on experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
