HVAC Setup Technician

Location: Charlotte, NC

Pay Rate: $23.46/hour

Schedule: 2nd shift

PDS Tech Commercial is seeking a Set Up Technician to support HVAC equipment testing and operations. This is a hands-on role working with chillers, testing equipment, measuring instruments, and control systems to help ensure equipment operates safely and performs as expected.

Key ResponsibilitiesChiller Testing & Operations

• Set up and operate water-cooled and air-cooled chillers in engineering laboratories.
• Execute testing activities and support engineering development projects.
• Operate, inspect, and maintain chillers, test setups, and laboratory equipment.
• Troubleshoot electrical, mechanical, and refrigeration systems.
• Support efficient chiller operation and test execution.
• Assist with calibration and measurement activities.

Equipment & Technical Support

• Work with electrical systems, including 460V, 3-phase, 60Hz equipment .
• Connect and troubleshoot HVAC and refrigeration systems.
• Handle refrigerants in accordance with EPA requirements.
• Utilize flow, pressure, and temperature measurement equipment.
• Identify and resolve test-related issues to minimize downtime.

Team Collaboration

• Collaborate with engineering, development, and cross-functional teams.
• Communicate testing results, issues, and recommendations.
• Assist in coaching and supporting fellow technicians.
• Support problem resolution and continuous improvement efforts.

Laboratory Safety & Maintenance

• Promote safe work practices and support EHS requirements.
• Maintain organized work areas using 5S principles.
• Report equipment and instrumentation issues promptly.
• Support preventive maintenance and laboratory uptime initiatives.

Reporting & Documentation

• Collect and report test status and results.
• Document issues and corrective actions.
• Support preparation of test reports and technical documentation.
• Apply measurement and troubleshooting best practices.

Required Qualifications

• Technical/Business School Certificate, High School Diploma, GED, or Skilled Trades Apprenticeship.
• Minimum 1 year of experience using:
  • Hand tools
  • Pneumatic tools
  • Flow, temperature, and pressure measurement equipment
  • Precision measuring instruments
• Ability to troubleshoot mechanical and electrical systems.
• Strong attention to safety and quality.

Preferred Qualifications

• 3+ years of Chiller/HVAC operational experience
• 2+ years of mechanical or electrical shop experience
• Experience working with commercial chiller systems from manufacturers such as:
  • Carrier
  • Trane
  • York
  • Daikin
• EPA Certification for refrigerant handling
• Experience with HVAC controls and automation systems

• Occasional after-hours or weekend support may be required for critical maintenance activities
