General Description:

The Senior Accountant is a key contributor to the accuracy and integrity of the company's financial reporting and the effectiveness of the accounting function. This role performs general ledger accounting, account reconciliations, financial analysis, month-end close activities, and audit support, with a significant focus on inventory, cost of goods sold, and supply chain accounting. The position partners with Operations, Purchasing, Accounts Payable, FP&A, Information Technology, and other business leaders to ensure inventory is accurately valued, financial and operational variances are understood and resolved, and accounting processes and controls continue to improve.

Essential Functions:

• Manage assigned general ledger, month-end close, account reconciliation, and financial analysis responsibilities, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting.
• Maintain the integrity of inventory balances, valuation, cost of goods sold, and related financial statement presentation.
• Analyze inventory activity and operational variances, identify risks or unusual trends, and facilitate timely resolution of issues by working with business partners to resolve issues.
• Partner with Operations, Purchasing, Accounts Payable, FP&A, and Information Technology to strengthen inventory and supply chain accounting processes.
• Support physical inventory and cycle count programs, including reconciliation, variance investigation, and documentation of results.
• Identify and implement improvements to accounting processes and controls through root cause analysis, standardization, automation, and improved documentation.
• Prepare audit support and contribute to special projects and strategic initiatives led by the Controllership team.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Solid knowledge of accounting principles and practical application of U.S. GAAP.
• Strong understanding of financial statements, general ledger accounting, month-end close, reconciliations, and variance analysis.
• Knowledge of inventory accounting concepts and the financial impact of purchasing, receiving, transfers, adjustments, returns, cost changes, and inventory reserves.
• Familiarity with the purchase-to-pay process and three-way matching among purchase orders, receipts, and invoices.
• Strong analytical, critical-thinking, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify root causes and communicate practical solutions.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and recurring responsibilities in a fast-paced, multi-entity or multi-location environment.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to work effectively with accounting and non-accounting partners.
• Proven ability to work independently while collaborating across functions and levels of the organization.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office, with advanced Excel skills, including pivot tables, lookups, formulas, and analysis of large data sets.
• Working knowledge of ERP, financial reporting, and operational systems, with the ability to quickly learn and effectively utilize new systems and technology.

Education and Work Experience:

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required.
• Three or more years of progressive accounting experience, including general ledger accounting, month-end close, account reconciliations, financial analysis, and audit support.
• Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified Management Accountant (CMA), or similar designation is a plus.
• Experience in retail, automotive, distribution, manufacturing, or another inventory-intensive environment is a plus.

• Walking, standing, sitting, listening, and talking on a wide variety and continual basis.
• Required to stand, walk, use hands and fingers, handle and/or feel; lift/carry up to 25 pounds, and reach with hands and arms.
