This position is located in the Bakersfield Office.
Under the general direction of the Business Taxes Administrator (BTA) II, Compliance Principal, the BTA I is responsible for a variety of compliance and administrative functions. The BTA I manages and controls vital day-to-day operational functions to promote compliance, deter fraud/tax evasion and enhance compliance for all programs administered by the California Department of Tax and Fee Administration (CDTFA). As part of these operational functions, the incumbent directs team members to conduct investigations, research and review leads, visit businesses, analyze cases, and evaluate documents, books and records, and financial documents. The incumbent integrates and applies practices, policies and procedures across both compliance and audit functions and may work with external teams to keep work coordinated, managed and productive. The incumbent is responsible for motivating, training, and developing team members, and monitoring employee performance.
The position may require the incumbent to travel up to five percent (5%) of the time, including overnight travel, subject to operational needs. Minimum of three days in office up to five subject to operational needs.

Eligibility for Promotional Exams
In addition to meeting the Minimum Qualifications for the BUSINESS TAXES ADMINISTRATOR I, competition is limited to individuals who meet at least one of the following promotional examination criteria:
- Have a permanent civil service appointment with CDTFA, or
- Are current or former employees of the legislature for 2 or more years as defined in Government Code 18990, or
- Are current or former non-elected exempt employees of the executive branch for 2 or more consecutive years as defined in Govt. Code 18992, or
- Are persons retired from the United States military honorably discharged from active duty with a service disability or honorably discharged from active duty as defined in Government Code 18991. Applicants must provide a copy of discharge papers (DD 214) for verification purposes at the time of application.
