FRIENDS CARE COMMUNITY |YELLOW SPRINGS, OHIO The Opportunity at a Glance Position: Chief Executive Officer Organization: Friends Care Community (Friends Health Care Association, Inc.) Location: Yellow Springs, Ohio Reports to: Board President, Friends Care Community Board of Trustees Direct Reports: Nine Community Profile: Independent, values-driven nonprofit continuing care retirement community | CMS Five-Star Health Inspection Rating | Serving Southwest Ohio since 1977 Team Members: Approximately 90 Campus: Twenty-three wooded acres designated as a certified wildlife habitat Board Composition : 11 members; 6 appointed by the Yellow Springs Friends Meeting (do not need to be Quakers but are in sympathy with Friends) and 5 self-appointed by the board. Capacity: Health Center: 59 licensed beds providing long-term skilled nursing, short-term inpatient rehabilitation, and respite care. All rooms are private, including 16 dedicated rehabilitation rooms. Assisted Living: 20 private apartments across four floor plans; currently full with a wait list. Independent Living: Two- and three-bedroom patio homes with attached garages, set along wooded walking paths; currently full with a wait list of approximately 30. Additional Programs: An on-site preschool program for multigenerational interaction, outpatient rehabilitation for all ages, greenhouse, community garden, playground, pet-friendly spaces, and paved walking paths through scenic woods. Role Definition and Impact The Chief Executive Officer serves as the senior-most leader of Friends Care Community, accountable to the Board of Trustees for overall organizational performance, mission fidelity, and long-term sustainability. This is an integrated role. The Board seeks one leader who can hold both day-to-day operational competence and outward-facing strategic vision, while building a leadership team capable of carrying more. The role requires: Strategic Leadership Operational Excellence Culture and Workforce Leadership Community and Stakeholder Engagement Ideal Candidate Profile Professional Background Core Requirements: Progressive senior leadership experience in senior living, long-term care, or a comparable mission-driven health care setting Demonstrated financial management and regulatory compliance record within a regulated environment Evidence of census, occupancy, or revenue growth achieved while maintaining quality Proven ability to build, develop, and hold accountable a senior leadership team Strong communication skills and a visible, relational leadership presence Genuine alignment with the values described above, and facility leading in an inclusive culture that welcomes diverse voices Preferred Qualifications: Nursing Home Administrator license preferred. Candidates with the ability and willingness to obtain Ohio licensure, or to lead in partnership with a licensed administrator, will be given full consideration. Master’s degree in Healthcare Administration, Business, Gerontology, Nonprofit Management, or a related field Continuing care retirement community or multi-level continuum experience Successful track record in philanthropy, including capital campaign or endowment development Prior experience with campus master planning, renovation, or expansion projects Nonprofit board partnership and governance experience Experience in mission-driven or values-based organizations Leadership Style and Character Visible and Relational: Known by name to residents, families, and team members, and present well beyond the office Transparent by Default: Shares the real picture, including the difficult parts, before being asked Collaborative by Instinct: Builds decisions alongside people rather than handing them down Decisive Within Consensus: Draws out voice and discernment, then makes the call when the call is needed Steady and Grounded: Calm and clear-headed amid competing pressures, and unpretentious in style A Bridge to the Village: Connects the campus to the community that built it and still sustains it The Calling This is more than an executive appointment.
