Join a growing fabrication team that builds premium, custom-engineered heavy-haul trailers and equipment for construction, energy, national defense, and other specialized transportation needs. In this role, you perform MIG welding on carbon steel components, working in a covered open-air shop to fabricate, fit, and assemble parts for large trailer projects. You collaborate in small teams, follow detailed work instructions and blueprints, and contribute directly to increasing production capacity and supporting new product lines.
Responsibilities
Participate in a daily safety meeting at 6:30 a.m. and follow all safety protocols throughout the shift.
Review the day’s work plan at 6:45 a.m., stretch, and prepare tools and materials for production activities.
Work in teams of two or three to complete assigned trailer fabrication projects, adjusting team size based on project scope.
Gather and organize materials for each job, ensuring correct sizes, grades, and quantities are available at the work bay.
Read and interpret work instructions, layouts, and blueprints to understand project specifications and welding requirements.
Perform MIG welding on 1/4-inch carbon steel using heavier-gauge wire that runs hotter and faster than standard setups.
Fabricate and weld parts and assemblies according to drawings and quality standards, including structural and trailer components.
Fit welded parts onto trailers, ensuring proper alignment, fit-up, and structural integrity before final welding.
Use tape measures and other basic measuring tools to verify dimensions, tolerances, and layout accuracy.
Perform carbon and stainless steel welding as required by specific projects.
Assist with flux core welding tasks when needed, following established procedures and parameters.
Apply TIG welding skills when appropriate for stainless or specialty components, if experienced.
Maintain clean, organized work bays and equipment to support efficient production and a safe work environment.
Monitor weld quality, perform visual inspections, and support bend tests or other quality checks as required.
Collaborate with teammates and leads to meet production goals and support increased order volume.
Adapt to occasional Saturday work when business needs require additional production hours.
Essential Skills
At least 6 months of MIG welding experience on carbon steel, gained through professional work or formal training.
Proficiency in MIG welding, specifically on 1/4-inch carbon steel using hotter, heavier wire.
Ability to read and interpret blueprints and work instructions for fabrication and welding projects.
Skill in using a tape measure and basic hand tools to perform accurate layout and measurement.
Experience with carbon steel welding in a production or structural steel environment.
Capability to work in teams of two or three, coordinating tasks to complete large trailer projects.
Understanding of basic fabrication and fitting practices, including layout and assembly of welded components.
Commitment to safety and ability to participate in daily safety meetings and follow established procedures.
Willingness to work a 48-hour Monday–Friday schedule with occasional Saturday work as needed.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Flux core welding experience or strong interest in learning flux core welding, with preference for those already proficient.
Stainless steel welding experience, including MIG or flux core processes.
TIG welding experience, particularly on stainless steel or specialized components, considered a plus.
Ability to pass a bend test and demonstrate consistent weld quality under inspection.
Knowledge of how to run a bevel and prepare joints for proper penetration and strength.
Background in structural steel fabrication or similar heavy manufacturing environments.
Education or training in welding, fabrication, or related technical fields, including trade school or vocational programs.
Comfort working in a covered open-air welding shop with variable temperatures.
