PH 303: Social Behavioral and Community Health

The Department of Public Health atCalifornia State University San Marcos seeks a part-time lecturer for Fall 2026 to teach PH 303 - Social Behavioral and Community Health. This course is a 3-unit course taught over the course of the semester.

Course Description

The course introduces current issues in health from a social science and behavioral perspective. It defines and explores health determinants using an ecological approach and identifies multilevel influences risk factors and health prevention/promotion strategies. PH 303 provides a foundational understanding of public health concepts tools approaches and a critical examination of health and disease within populations.

Minimum qualifications:

• A Master of Public Health (MPH) or Master of Science in Public Health (MSPH) is required.
• Experience working with college-level students or teaching in an institution of higher learning.
• Ability to communicate effectively
• Ability to work cooperatively with core faculty and colleagues
• Per the California State Universitys Out-of-State Employment Policy the CSU is prohibited from hiring employees to perform CSU-related work outside California. Working in the State of California is a condition of employment.

Preferred qualifications:

• A doctoral degree in Public Health or a closely related field (e.g. PhD MD DrPH ScD JD etc.)
• Preference will be given to applicants who demonstrate intercultural competence and a commitment to serving our campus community as it relates to teaching and as applicable service.

Salary commensurate with degree level and experience

• Anticipated Hiring Salary Range: $5507 - $6000 per full-time month

The salary schedule information for the Lecturer Academic Year Classification is available based on the following ranges:

• CSU Classification Salary Range Lecturer A - AY: $5507 $6677 per full-time month
• CSU Classification Salary Range Lecturer B - AY: $6221 $13224 per full-time month

The anticipated hiring range is generally at or near the minimum of the appropriate range commensurate with education and experience.
