Massachusetts Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired (MABVI) offers a variety of services to support visually impaired adults, including community volunteer programs, peer‑led support groups, and vision rehabilitation specialists. We are looking for volunteers in the Boston region who are willing to travel a minimum of 10‑15 miles within the City of Boston. One specific participant in Somerville, MA requires a volunteer to assist once a week or bi‑monthly. A vehicle is needed for this role. Volunteer Responsibilities Assist with reading mail, paying bills, using the Internet and technology. Provide medical transportation and grocery shopping assistance. Run errands in the community and accompany the participant on recreational activities such as walking or running as a sighted guide. Perform other clerical tasks as needed. Time Commitment Flexible: volunteers typically devote 1‑2 hours per week or every other week, depending on the participant’s needs. Volunteer Onboarding Process Complete a MABVI Volunteer application. Complete the online, modular MABVI Volunteer Training. Schedule a Zoom conversation with a member of the MABVI Volunteer Team and submit a CORI check. Meet the Volunteer Team via Zoom or phone call.
