HVAC Technician - 1st Shift

Job Overview Woodward is looking to bring on an experienced HVAC Technician to support our Rock Cut Campus in Loves Park, IL. This individual will lead jobs, deliver high‑quality work, and work hands‑on with facility members. Responsibilities Install HVAC systems: Execute installation of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems following established procedures and specifications. Perform maintenance: Conduct regular maintenance tasks to ensure HVAC systems operate efficiently and reliably. Conduct preventive maintenance: Develop and carry out routine maintenance schedules for HVAC equipment to enhance system reliability. Mentor junior technicians: Provide expert guidance and support to less experienced team members. Optimize technical processes: Evaluate and refine existing HVAC procedures and methodologies to improve efficiency. Diagnose issues: Identify and resolve typical HVAC system problems using established analytical methods. Collaborate with team: Work with team members to support project objectives and ensure high‑quality service delivery. Document activities: Record maintenance activities and service reports to maintain accurate operational records. Qualifications Proficiency in installing various HVAC systems and ensuring compliance with industry standards. Comprehensive knowledge of installation, maintenance, and repair of complex HVAC systems. Expertise in diagnosing and resolving intricate and atypical HVAC system issues. Leadership and mentorship: Act as an informal resource guiding less experienced team members. Project management: Capable of managing HVAC projects from initiation to completion with minimal supervision. Regulatory compliance: In depth knowledge of HVAC related codes, standards, and regulations. Preventive maintenance planning: Develop and implement effective preventive maintenance schedules. Technical troubleshooting: Adept at diagnosing and resolving complex HVAC system issues using established diagnostic methods. Blueprint interpretation: Skilled in reading and interpreting technical drawings, schematics and blueprints. Refrigeration systems: In depth knowledge of refrigeration cycles and handling refrigerants in accordance with safety and environmental regulations. Electrical wiring: Competent in installing and repairing electrical components related to HVAC systems, including wiring and control systems. Safety compliance: Thorough understanding of safety protocols to maintain a safe working environment. Customer service: Effective in communicating with clients to understand their HVAC needs. Tool proficiency: Experienced with HVAC tools and equipment for installation, maintenance and repair tasks. Documentation skills: Ability to accurately document work performed, maintenance schedules and system modifications. Technical documentation: Proficient in creating detailed technical reports and maintaining accurate records of HVAC system operations. Communication skills: Skilled in explaining complex technical information clearly to team members and clients. Resource coordination: Effectively coordinate team efforts and resources to achieve project goals. Problem‑solving expertise: Provides innovative solutions based on existing procedures and precedents. Additional Requirements EPA Section 608 Certification or equivalent required. Physical activity requires agility and dexterity, including walking, standing, or bending; and lifting or moving objects. Work is performed in an area with moderate risk or discomfort that may require special safety precautions, such as wearing protective clothing or gear. Work is performed in tight spaces; repeated kneeling is involved; frequently working in extreme temperatures. Successful candidates typically have proficiency in diagnosing and repairing commercial HVAC units; knowledge and experience in preventive maintenance of 800‑ton chiller units, boilers; experience using and working with Trane HVAC monitoring system; journeyman experience.
