Laboratory Manager - Medical Technician - Hematology

Overview Laboratory Manager responsible for overseeing all laboratory operations in a high‑volume environment. Must have experience with Chemistry / IA, Hematology, and familiarity with Quidel/Ortho Vitros or Sysmex equipment (preferred). The role includes leadership of a team of technicians, ensuring compliance with AABB and CLSI guidelines, and maintaining accurate documentation and safety protocols. Responsibilities Oversee specimen collection, labeling, centrifugation, and preparation for testing, ensuring proper handling to prevent contamination and errors. Manage labeling, processing, and transportation of specimens, keeping chain‑of‑custody documentation accurate and compliant. Direct preparation of lab equipment, reagents, and work areas; ensure cleaning and sterilization per OSHA and infection control standards. Maintain accurate equipment records, daily work logs, and review documentation for accuracy. Enter laboratory data into the LIS or EHR, verifying completeness and correctness. Enforce safety protocols, monitor biohazard waste disposal, manage inventory and supply ordering, and maintain PPE availability. Lead quality assurance activities, including quality control checks, proficiency testing, and training sessions; maintain documentation for inspections. Provide managerial administrative support—review reports, approve supply orders, and develop patient instructions for specimen collection. Collaborate with staff and leadership to address lab needs, troubleshoot issues, and assign duties while prioritizing patient safety and confidentiality. Safety & Regulatory Requirements Complete annual OSHA training on exposure control plans and personal protective equipment usage. Maintain knowledge of Safety Data Sheets and follow safe handling practices for hazardous chemicals. Use safety‑engineered sharps and participate in evaluations of safer medical devices. Maintain ergonomic guidelines, report unsafe conditions, and participate in emergency preparedness drills. Record all training, vaccinations, and exposure incidents in compliance with OSHA requirements. Qualifications Education: Bachelor’s degree in medical laboratory science, biology, or chemistry from an accredited institution. Certifications: ASCP or AMT certification. Computer literacy: familiarity with data entry and Microsoft Office. Attention to detail, precise following of instructions, and strong safety commitment. Teamwork and communication skills suitable for a fast‑paced environment. Preferred Qualifications Experience with EMR Allscripts/Veradigm or CGM LabDaq (LIS). Experience with Quidel/Ortho Vitros or Sysmex equipment. 2–3 years supervisory or managerial experience in a clinical laboratory or related setting. Knowledge of CLSI specimen processing and aseptic techniques. Ability to multitask and adapt to varying workloads. BLS certification provided within the first 30 days of hire. Physical & Mental Requirements Lifting up to 50 pounds and pushing or pulling heavy objects up to 100 pounds. Ability to sit or stand for extended periods. Fine motor skill use for office equipment or machinery. Vehicle operation and driving knowledge. Ability to receive and comprehend instructions verbally or in writing.
