Community Education Specialist 3 Department: Ophthalmology Worksite: Shiley Eye Institute Appointment Type: Career Appointment Percent: 100% Pay Range: $55,400.00 - $74,600.00 / Year Responsibilities Under the supervision of the Program Director, the incumbent will: Complete vision screenings for over 15,000 children each school year. Coordinate scheduling for vision and hearing screenings at school sites. Schedule sites for comprehensive eye exams and manage children referred for further care in the community. Perform medical data entry. Assist clinic employees with patient translations and scheduling. Help maintain relationships with schools, children, and their parents. Manage fiscal duties and reporting mandates, including all reimbursements. Collaborate with the supervisor to develop grant proposals for division sustainability. Meet with patients recently diagnosed with eye disease to offer community resources. Assume additional duties as assigned. Qualifications Minimum Qualifications: Five (5) years of related experience, education/training, or an associate’s degree in a related area and/or equivalent experience/training plus three (3) or more years of relevant experience. Thorough knowledge of functional area and understanding of how work may impact other areas. Strong analytical skills to conduct analysis and develop recommendations, demonstrating organization and problem‑solving skills. Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication and presentation skills. Knowledge of organization policies and procedures. Proficiency in delivering programs and current community educational programs and trends. Skill in conducting needs assessment and developing new presentations or courses. Knowledge of managing a portfolio of business and management courses at the university level. Skill in using business software systems (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint). Preferred Qualifications: Fluency in written and spoken Spanish and English. Special Conditions Employment is subject to a criminal background check. Must use safe transportation for all work‑related travel and be willing to travel to community sites throughout San Diego County. Must be available some evenings and/or weekends.
