Administrative Specialist II - Jail Health Services (TLT/SDA)

Department of Public Health Seattle & King County is seeking to hire two (2) Term‑Limited Temporary (TLT) or Special Duty (SDA) Administrative Specialist IIs to join our team at Jail Health Services. These administrative specialists will provide specialized technical information, interpret policies and procedures, and support high‑volume medical document processing for the incarcerated population in King County jails, including medical, dental, mental health, social, and release planning services. About Jail Health Services Jail Health Services (JHS) provides comprehensive health and social services to incarcerated individuals at the King County Correctional Facility (KCCF) in Seattle and the Maleng Regional Justice Center (MRJC) in Kent. JHS operates 24/7, 365 days a year to support the diverse and complex health needs of the population in medical and psychiatric units within the correctional facilities. Temporary Opportunity TLT positions are at‑will and eligible for benefits, typically lasting approximately six months; however, funding and duration are subject to change. Special Duty assignments are available to qualified regular County employees who complete the initial probation and obtain supervisor approval. Work Schedule Typical schedules include five days a week for eight hours or four days a week for ten hours. Shift times will be determined by the hiring manager. The team operates from 5:00 a.m. to 10:30 p.m., seven days a week. This position is non‑exempt and eligible for overtime. Work Location Primary location: King County Correctional Facility, 500 5th Ave, Seattle, WA 98104. Secondary location: Maleng Regional Justice Center, 620 W James St, Kent, WA 98032. Employees must reside in Washington state and live within reasonable proximity to the worksite. Responsibilities Process and scan a high volume of medical documents into an Electronic Health Record system. Triage high‑volume telephone calls seeking information on residents, including sensitive situations. Utilize Microsoft Windows‑based software to enter data accurately into multiple databases. Pickup, deliver, and stock documents across a multi‑story building, using a stocking cart and lifting items up to 40 pounds. Participate as a member of the Jail Health Services Health Information Management (HIM) Team. Train other Administrative Specialist IIs in processes and procedures. Handle patient registration and insurance processing activities. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications (Minimum) Proficiency in Microsoft Windows Office. Data entry skills with at least 95% accuracy. Basic accounting and mathematics. Commitment to equity and social justice. Effective oral and written communication skills. Maintain confidentiality and follow HIPAA privacy rules. Proficiency with office equipment (fax, copier, scanner, label maker, printer). Ability to work independently and in an organized manner. Ability to prioritize and complete multiple tasks simultaneously. Team collaboration skills creating a constructive environment. Physical ability to lift, pull or move items greater than 40 pounds. Physical ability to reach above head, kneel, bend, stoop, navigate stairs, and walk greater than 300 yards. Desired Experience Experience working in a correctional facility. Experience using an electronic health record system. Experience within a healthcare organization. Experience in Health Information Management. Experience in administration, customer service, patient registration, or similar fields. Experience with insurance processing.
