Assistant/Associate/Full Professor of Emergency Medicine

Position Title: Assistant/Associate/Full Professor of Emergency Medicine, Division Chief, Point of Care Ultrasound (Appointment Type Open) Overview Indiana University School of Medicine and Indiana University Health Medical Group are seeking a strong academic leader for the Division Chief of Point of Care Ultrasound within the Department of Emergency Medicine. Candidates must be board certified in Emergency Medicine, fellowship trained or hold a focused practice designation in Advanced Emergency Medicine Ultrasound, be licensed or eligible for licensure in the State of Indiana, and have a background in leadership, scholarship and teaching. Demonstrated leadership ability is essential, and experience working in a culturally diverse environment is highly preferred. The Division Chief will lead a group of emergency ultrasound faculty, including pediatric emergency ultrasound faculty, who staff the emergency departments at IU Health Methodist, Eskenazi Health, and Riley Hospital for Children. Division Activities The emergency ultrasound division provides leadership, curricular development, and hands‑on teaching for the 4th‑year medical student emergency medicine clerkship, the categorical EM residency program, and the Pediatric EM fellowship. The IU School of Medicine, the largest medical school in the U.S., has nine campuses and over 1,600 students. The residency program has 21 residents per year, plus two residents in the EM/Pediatric combined program. Division faculty also serve as system‑wide point‑of‑care ultrasound medical directors for IU Health and Eskenazi Health. Responsibilities Lead the emergency ultrasound faculty and oversee teaching, curriculum design, and clinical practice in ultrasound across multiple hospitals. Report to the Vice Chair of Education and collaborate frequently with educational leaders for clerkship, residency, fellowship, and medical‑school programs. Participate in institutional leadership roles within the school and/or health system, and contribute to the 4‑year longitudinal ultrasound curriculum for the medical school. Foster research activities; the division has secured over $1M in grants in the past five years. Qualifications MD or DO, board certified in Emergency Medicine. Licensed or eligible to obtain a medical license in the State of Indiana. At least 3 years of professional clinical practice. At least 3 years of leadership experience in an academic or clinical setting. Fellowship training or focused practice designation in Advanced Emergency Medicine Ultrasound (preferred).
