The Division of Surgical Oncology in the Department of Surgery is seeking an exceptional academic Surgical Oncologist with expertise in minimally invasive surgery to join our elite team of experts at the Ohio State Wexner Medical Center (OSUWMC) along with the Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center (The James), one of 49 NCI-designated Comprehensive Cancer Centers. The ideal candidate will provide exemplary endocrine multidisciplinary patient care, have a discernable academic and research track record, as well as be an enthusiastic educator. The position requires a strong participatory interest in service commitment to relevant local, regional, national, and international professional organizations and programs. Academic rank and track commensurate with academic record and experience.
Position Overview
The successful candidate will join a highly collaborative and high-volume Division of Surgical Oncology with a broad and complex clinical practice spanning upper gastrointestinal, hepatopancreatobiliary (HPB), sarcoma, and related oncologic disease sites. This position is designed for a surgeon with advanced expertise in minimally invasive and robotic oncologic surgery, with an emphasis on expanding and innovating within an already well-established robotic surgery program.
The candidate will be expected to:
- Develop and maintain a robust clinical practice in surgical oncology with a focus on minimally invasive and robotic approaches
- Contribute to and further advance the Division's robotic oncology program, including complex resections and multidisciplinary care pathways
- Participate in a highly integrated, multidisciplinary care model, working closely with medical oncology, radiation oncology, gastroenterology, radiology, and pathology
- Engage in academic pursuits, which may include clinical trials, outcomes research, translational science, or programmatic innovation aligned with their expertise and interests
- Contribute to the Division's mission in education and mentorship, including teaching residents, fellows, and medical students in both clinical and didactic settings
- Participate in program development and quality initiatives, particularly in areas that enhance surgical innovation, patient outcomes, and access to advanced oncologic care
The Division offers a strong infrastructure to support academic growth, including access to clinical trial networks, institutional datasets, biostatistical support, and collaborative opportunities through The James. Faculty are encouraged to develop focused areas of expertise and to build programs that align with both institutional priorities and national trends in surgical oncology.
This position provides the opportunity to join a nationally recognized surgical oncology program with an established track record in minimally invasive and robotic surgery, while also contributing to the continued evolution of surgical innovation, clinical excellence, and academic leadership within the field.
Department/Division Overview The Division of Surgical Oncology at The Ohio State University is a leader in cancer care, education, and research, setting a national standard in multidisciplinary, patient-centered surgical oncology. Duties and Responsibilities Clinical Care: Provide expert surgical care in the management of premalignant and malignant oncologic conditions, with a strong emphasis on minimally invasive techniques and evidence-based approaches.
- Education: Participate in the education and mentorship of medical students, residents, and fellows, including endocrine surgery fellowship training, if applicable. The candidate will contribute to curriculum development, lectures, and hands-on training sessions.
- Research: Engage in meaningful research initiatives in translational research and clinical trials. Opportunities are available for both basic science and clinical research, with support for grant writing, publications, and presentations at national and international conferences.
- Program Development: Work collaboratively to expand the endocrine surgery program, enhancing the clinical footprint and further solidifying the division as a center of excellence.
- Quality Improvement and Leadership: Participate in quality improvement initiatives and committees to promote patient safety and outcomes, with opportunities for leadership roles within the division and department.
Requirements
- M.D. or equivalent who are American Board of Surgery eligible or certified in general surgery;
- Completion of a fellowship in surgical oncology;
- Academic track record with a focus on research, teaching, and program development;
- Eligible for a State of Ohio Medical License;
- Qualify for an academic appointment Academic rank and salary will be commensurate with previous training and experience.
