Educational Media Equipment Technician

ArtCenter College of Design is searching for an experienced Educational Media Equipment Technician — swing shift to join our team. The salary range for this position: $23.00 - 25.00 (35 hour work week). Final salary is based on education, experience, skills relevant to the role, and internal equity.

The Educational Media Equipment Technician Hillside is responsible for administrative and technical work involved in the receiving, inspecting and issuing of film, video, photo, lighting and AV equipment, materials and supplies. Work includes circulating Educational Media equipment through WebCheckout, thorough testing of all equipment, cycle counting and inventories, training of less experienced employees and student workers for WebCheckout.

This is a full-time 35hr work week position at our Hillside location, for the swing shift of 12:00pm-8:00pm, Monday through Friday. Please note: this schedule may change depending on the candidates lunch time preferences. The position may require flexibility to work a staggered, remote or alternate schedule to meet the demands of the work, which could include weekends, different EMEC locations, or mornings.

Essential Functions

Customer Service — 45%

• Provide excellent customer service to students, faculty and staff
• Ensure equipment is issued only to those properly authorized
• Assist patrons on proper use of equipment
• Regularly read and respond to emails and/or Teams messages from manager, supervisors, and ACCD patrons
• Assist in training new staff and student workers regarding departmental circulation usage and policies
• Understand all departmental equipment circulation policies, authorizations, and restrictions

Equipment — 50%

• Ensure all equipment leaving the M.E.C. is accounted for within WebCheckout
• Inspect, test, identify and document issues from all returned equipment including loss or damage
• Cleaning and disinfecting of equipment
• Properly restock returned equipment
• Follow written procedures of induction of new equipment into the database
• Help Supervisor and Manager on incoming and out going lease equipment projects
• Participate in cycle counts
• Minor troubleshooting and repairs
• Classroom equipment delivery and pickup
• Maintain a clean and orderly workspace
• Ensure the daily checklist is completed including, but not limited to:
• Reviewing scheduled classroom equipment deliveries/pickup
• Reviewing equipment late list

Non-Essential Duties — 5%

• Provide Audio Visual and Classroom support as needed
• Occasionally accompany Repair and Maintenance Coordinator on deliveries, and pick-ups using ACCD vehicles
• Identify and recommend potential improvements to workflow and operations
• Ensure the daily checklist is completed including, but not limited to:
• Reviewing scheduled classroom equipment deliveries/pickup
• Reviewing equipment late list
• Delegate student workers' duties

Required Qualifications:

• 1-3 Years of experience in a film/photo production equipment rental environment
• Knowledge of inventory control and familiarity with film, video, photography, lighting and AV equipment
• Ability to quickly grasp computer-based circulation system utilizing barcodes and scanners
• Effective interpersonal communication skills necessary for customer service, technical support and vendor contact
• Ability to apply appropriate judgment when reviewing student late fines and holds
• Ability to multitask, prioritize, and complete assigned tasks on time
• Ability to handle a variety of complex problems and devise solutions
• Good computer skills (Microsoft Word/Teams, Excel, Mac OS X)
• In depth knowledge and experience of all media equipment is necessary
• Valid California driver license, and proof of insurance required as technicians are scheduled to deliver/pick-up equipment to/from repair vendors
• Demonstrated experience in and a commitment to diversity, and the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships within ArtCenter's diverse communities

Preferred Qualifications

• College degree preferred
• Working knowledge of WebCheckout
• Prior customer service experience
• Certified Technology Specialist (CTS) certification

Environment : Work is performed primarily in a shop and office setting with frequent interruptions and distractions; extended periods of time using shop equipment including but not limited to computers, audio and sound equipment; interactions with other individuals. Due to the nature of the work environment, there is exposure to loud noises, chemicals, fumes, dust and heat.

Physical : Primary functions require sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in a shop setting; to stand or walk for prolonged periods of time; including, bending, kneeling, crouching, reaching, squatting, and twisting; to lift, carry, push, and/or pull moderate to heavy amounts of weight (50lbs individually or team-lift up to 100 pounds); to operate office and shop equipment requiring repetitive hand movement and fine coordination, handle or feel objects, tools or controls; and to verbally communicate to exchange information.

Vision : Must be able to have the visual capacity to perform activities such as preparing and reading reports, viewing a computer terminal and other normal office work with or without correction.

Hearing : Must be able to communicate effectively in the course of normal office communication or exchange ideas with or without correction.
