Teacher - General Education / Head Softball Coach (2026‑2027) Starting Date: Aug 3, 2026 Job Description Provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences in the core academic subject area assigned to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. Enable students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society. Direct and manage the assigned sport athletic program, instruct and coach students to develop skills and abilities to excel in athletics, and ensure compliance with all federal, state, University Interscholastic League (UIL), and local requirements. Instructional Strategies Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill the District’s curriculum program and show written evidence of preparation as required. Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, materials, and equipment that reflect the learning styles and needs of students. Collaborate with Special Education Teachers to modify curricula for students with Individual Education Plans (IEP). Determine instructional goals, objectives, and methods in partnership with staff. Plan and assign work to instructional aides and volunteers, overseeing completion. Athletic Program Management Establish performance criteria for competition and manage athletic activities, contests, and practice sessions. Model required performance criteria and fundamental movements to students. Maintain a program that promotes good sportsmanship, student growth, and departmental goals. Set and uphold physical and academic eligibility requirements for each sport. Apply varied coaching techniques to improve student athletes’ abilities. Take all necessary precautions to protect athletes, equipment, and facilities. Use evaluative findings, including student achievement data, to assess program effectiveness. Collaborate with school staff to plan instructional goals that support overall educational development of student athletes. Athletic Events Serve as a positive role model for students. Assist in preparing interscholastic game schedules. Drive the school bus for out-of-district competitions when required. Student Management and Organization Implement student management policies, communicate expected athletic behavior, and enforce discipline per the Student Code of Conduct. Accompany and supervise athletes during games at home and on out‑of‑town trips. Advise students on NCAA regulations concerning academic eligibility and recruiting. Assist in selecting equipment and instructional materials. Compile, maintain, and file all required reports and records. Communication Maintain professional relationships and open communication with parents, students, colleagues, and community members. Administration, Budget, and Inventory Implement policies from federal law, state law, the State Board of Education, UIL, and local board concerning athletics. Follow safety protocols and emergency procedures. Support development and management of the athletic budget, ensuring cost‑effective operations. Oversee equipment cleaning, repair, and storage; maintain current inventory and recommend replacements. Coordinate facility use by non‑school groups. Plan, organize, and oversee all activities, including practices, special events, and tournaments. Develop training options and improvement plans for employees to ensure exemplary operation. Community Relations Articulate the District’s mission and goals in athletics to the community and solicit support. Initiate activities to meet community and parent needs and encourage involvement. Support athletic booster club activities. Professional Growth and Development Participate in staff development activities to improve job‑related skills. Comply with State, District, and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers. Attend faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required. Other Responsibilities Maintain confidentiality. Develop and manage systems for information retrieval. Pursue professional development aligned with District goals. Comply with all policies, procedures, legal requirements, and written directives. Follow the Professional Code of Ethics and Standard Practices for Texas Educators. Perform other related duties as assigned. Qualifications Education/Certification Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited university. Valid Texas Teaching Certificate in the subject assigned. Valid Texas Teacher Certificate in English as a Second Language (required for all core subject teachers). Current first aid, CPR, and AED certification. Clear Texas commercial driver’s license with Passenger (P) and School Bus (S) endorsements (preferred). CTE Teachers: Valid Texas Teaching Certificate with required endorsements or related training for certification waivers under the District of Innovation Plan. Experience Three (3) years of coaching experience at the 5‑A to 6‑A level. Head Coach or Athletic Coordinator experience (preferred). Ability to develop, implement, and maintain a highly competitive program. Successful classroom teaching experience. Special Knowledge / Skills / Abilities Knowledge of overall athletic program operations. Knowledge of coaching techniques and procedures. Knowledge of federal, state, and UIL policies governing athletics. Ability to instruct and supervise student athletes. Ability to implement policy and procedures. Ability to interpret data. Ability to manage budget and personnel. Excellent public relations, organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills. Knowledge of core academic subjects and curriculum and instruction. Ability to instruct students and manage behavior. Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills. Ability to pass federal alcohol and drug tests and perform an annual physical (if bus driving duties required). Supervisory Responsibilities Support campus administration with supervision of assigned coaching staff.
