Medical Laboratory Technician

Job Summary:

The Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) or Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) provides essential laboratory testing and analysis to support acute care and inpatient services in a Magnet-designated, Level II Trauma hospital. The role involves performing diagnostic tests, utilizing Epic electronic health records, and operating Siemens Atellica equipment to ensure accurate and timely patient results. The technician collaborates with clinical staff to maintain high standards of laboratory practice and patient care in a fast-paced hospital environment.

Responsibilities:

Perform routine and specialized laboratory tests on patient specimens in accordance with established protocols.
Operate and maintain laboratory instruments, including Siemens Atellica analyzers.
Document and report test results accurately using the Epic electronic medical record system.
Ensure compliance with quality control, safety standards, and regulatory requirements.
Collaborate with clinical teams to provide timely diagnostic information supporting patient care.
Manage inventory and restock laboratory supplies as needed.
Participate in continuous education and training to maintain certification and technical proficiency.

Required Skills & Certifications:

ASCP, AMT, or AAB certification as a Medical Laboratory Technician or Medical Laboratory Scientist.
Minimum of 1 year acute care or inpatient laboratory experience.
Proficiency with Epic electronic health record system.
Experience with Siemens Atellica laboratory equipment preferred.
Ability to work accurately in a high-volume, acute care hospital setting.

Preferred Skills & Certifications:

Additional laboratory certifications or advanced training in clinical laboratory sciences.
Experience working in a Magnet-designated or trauma hospital environment.

Special Considerations:

Weekend work is required at least every other weekend, with the possibility of more frequent weekend shifts.
No on-call duties are required.
Local candidates are not accepted; candidate's permanent address must be at least 50 miles from the facility.
Time off requests are approved individually upon offer and must be included with the initial submission.

Scheduling:

Work schedule consists of five 8-hour evening shifts, from 2:00 PM to 10:30 PM.
Guaranteed 72 hours every two weeks, with the possibility of being called off for one 8-hour shift per two-week period.
Block scheduling accommodations are not available.
