ABOUT THE COMPANY:


Our client is seeking a detail-oriented Lease Accountant to join their accounting team. This position is ideal for an accounting professional with 2+ years of experience in real estate accounting, lease administration, or lease accounting who is looking to grow their career within a dynamic organization.


The Lease Accountant will be responsible for maintaining accurate lease accounting records, performing lease-related calculations and reconciliations, and supporting the financial reporting process.


OVERVIEW OF THE LEASE ACCOUNTANT ROLE:

• Manage accounting activities related to the company's real estate lease portfolio.
• Maintain accurate lease records, schedules, and supporting documentation.
• Review lease agreements and amendments to identify accounting and financial impacts.
• Perform monthly lease accounting calculations, journal entries, and reconciliations.
• Assist with ASC 842 lease accounting requirements and reporting.
• Reconcile lease-related accounts and investigate variances or discrepancies.
• Track rent, operating expenses, escalations, abatements, and other lease-related activity.
• Partner with property management, real estate, accounts payable, and other internal teams to ensure accurate lease information.
• Assist with month-end and year-end close activities.
• Support the preparation of financial reports, schedules, and audit documentation.
• Maintain compliance with company accounting policies and applicable GAAP requirements.
• Assist with lease audits and provide documentation to external auditors as needed.
• Identify opportunities to improve lease accounting processes, reporting, and internal controls.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE LEASE ACCOUNTANT:

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred.
• 2+ years of accounting experience, preferably within real estate, property management, or lease accounting.
• Working knowledge of GAAP and ASC 842 .
• Experience with account reconciliations and month-end close.
• Strong Excel skills and the ability to work with large amounts of financial data.
• Experience reviewing contracts, leases, or other financial agreements preferred.
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
• Excellent analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.
• Experience with real estate accounting software or ERP systems is a plus.
