This position prescribes nursing care based on the nursing process, which is consistent with the medical plan of care. Care is based on input from the patient and significant others. The nurse collaborates with physicians and other members of the health care team. The delivery of patient care is coordinated for patients of any age, including neonatal, infant, child, adolescent, adult, and geriatric. Teaching and discharge planning needs are incorporated into the overall plan of care. Certain aspects of patient care delivery are delegated to other nursing staff based on their current clinical competence and legal scope of practice. Education and work experience include a preferred bachelor's degree in nursing. Acute care facility experience is preferred. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification is required at the time of hire. Demonstrated competency in dysrhythmia is required during orientation for all departments except for obstetrics and NICU. Demonstrates an ability to set appropriate priorities in providing patient care and responds to changes in workload. Utilizes the nursing process to assess patients and design individualized care plans. Collaborates with other disciplines to formulate the plan of care for assigned patients. Applies knowledge of illnesses, injuries, and diseases to deliver patient care. Provides patient and family education in all phases of care delivery. Responds to emergency patient situations or internal/external disasters following established protocols. Reports observations, reactions, and problems to the appropriate personnel in a timely manner. Ensures continuity of care by processing and following through on physician's orders. Acts as the patient’s advocate, ensuring rights are preserved. Documents assessments, nursing interventions, and care provided to assigned patients. Performs emergency procedures and assesses patient responses effectively. Maintains awareness of professional responsibilities and legal scope of practice. Utilizes communication skills to assure effective communication with patients, families, and coworkers. Demonstrates safe use of equipment and performs other job-related duties as assigned.
