About the Position

Registered Nurse Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Medical Surgical/Telemetry Duration: 13 or 26-week contract option Shift: Day Hours per Shift: 12 hours (07:00 - 19:00) Experience: Minimum 2 years of prior experience in a large, urban hospital License: Current nursing license required Certifications: BLS required, ACLS and CPI preferred Must-Have: Must be comfortable taking care of a behavioral health patient population. Experience with EPIC charting system required. Travelers are first to float. RNs must be prepared to float frequently to meet staffing needs. Description: This is a 20-bed general medical surgical and telemetry unit. Patients may include those with total knee and hip replacements, complicated orthopedic cases, pulmonary issues, sepsis, GI, endocrine, cardiac, renal, and psychiatric illnesses. The unit is split across two floors. Patients on the 7th floor may have underlying behavioral health conditions and the floor is secured. Training for safety and de-escalation will be provided. Ratios are 1:5 during the day and 1:6 at night. Night ratios can occasionally be 1:7, although this is rare. Must have experience with drips on all floors. Daily patient care includes monitoring vital signs, administering medication, and managing care plans. Team members include CNAs, care techs, transport team, and LPNs may be assigned on some floors. Weekend shifts will be required, with four weekend shifts out of eight possible during a four-week period. Travelers must work two of three major holidays, as specified. RTO restrictions allow for up to two weeks of requested time off initially. RNs must wear designated scrubs with the facility logo. The facility is a teaching hospital providing care to complex patients. Must be able to manage various medical and surgical diagnoses. Behavioral health experience in an acute care setting is preferred but not required. 100% nicotine-free facility. Salary and benefits are competitive and commensurate with experience.
