Open Space Steward II The Open Space Steward II is a skilled to semi-skilled laborer who is involved in equipment operation, construction and mechanical work of a primarily physically demanding nature. Work involves responsibility for performing a variety of tasks with a major emphasis on general open space maintenance including trail systems management, landscape construction, natural areas maintenance and restoration. Position will require some weekends and overtime. The full salary range for this position is stated above. The starting range of pay is dependent on qualifications and experience of each individual candidate. Education, Experience, Skills, Formal Training, Licenses, and Certifications Required: High school Diploma or GED Required Possess a valid driver's license and safe driving record required Ability to obtain a Class B Commercial Driver's License within six (6) months of hire Possess or obtain within six (6) months of hire a valid State of Colorado Pesticide Applicator's License (Rangeland Pest Control and Industrial and Right-of-Way Weed Control) Preferred: Previous experience in open space, trails, parks, or natural areas maintenance Knowledge of and experience with basic construction, welding, and/or masonry Experience operating light and/or heavy machinery Experience with general landscape maintenance, including mowing, trimming, and blowing Experience with snow removal or mitigation Demonstrated ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions Capability and desire to enroll in educational classes in open space, trail construction, and related topics Any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience, which would provide the required knowledge and skills, may be considered. Physical Requirements: Work is physical in nature and requires sufficient physical strength and stamina to: Constantly walk on uneven terrain in all weather conditions; frequently stand; occasionally sit while driving to work assignments or performing office tasks Frequently squat, twist, climb, and balance on uneven trail terrain Frequently bend, kneel, and reach below shoulder height to perform mower servicing, fence repair, trail work, and construction tasks Frequently step up and/or down to enter and exit vehicles and heavy equipment, including trucks, tractors, mowers, and front-end loaders; occasionally climb ladders Frequently grasp tools and equipment with light to firm grip Constantly handle machinery and heavy equipment safely Occasionally lift up to 50 pounds GovernmentJobs.com
