Associate Director, Trade Compliance

Associate Director leading trade compliance and governance for U.S. and global import/export operations at a major medical device manufacturer. Requires active Licensed Customs Broker credential and responsibility for regulatory oversight, tariff classification, broker management, and duty optimization across manufacturing and distribution networks.

Responsibilities

• Supervise formal customs entries, binding rulings, protests, and post-entry amendments as qualified Licensed Customs Broker
• Design and implement trade compliance policies, work instructions, and internal controls across global sites
• Coordinate with Regulatory Affairs and Quality teams on FDA Notice of Arrival requirements and import compliance
• Oversee HTS classifications, country-of-origin markings, and complex valuation determinations including FTA reconciliations
• Direct performance management of third-party customs brokers, freight forwarders, and contract manufacturing partners

Requirements

• Active U.S. Customs Broker License issued by CBP
• Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, International Business, Logistics, or related field
• 8–10 years progressive international trade compliance experience
• 5+ years managing import/export operations in FDA-regulated medical device, diagnostics, or pharmaceutical manufacturing
• Deep expertise in 19 CFR, HTSUS classification, customs valuation, and C-TPAT frameworks
• Experience with major ERP systems (SAP, GTS) and automated customs data entry (ACE)
• Proven leadership in matrixed structures with executive communication skills
